Community Stuff 6/30/14

Hi Joey,. Heads up in advance. I am writing to  you to let you know there is a group of 8 Aussies coming over to go Wicked Tuna fishing starting 21st July.

We are all from the same yacht Club Sandringham Yacht Club in Melbourne Australia.  The idea was hatched 12 months ago when we were all talking about Wicked Tuna on TV. I made a few enquiries and suggested to the team ‘ why don’t we go over and meet the stars of the show’. So we arrive Gloucester on the 20th – 26th  and we are staying at Cape Ann’s Marina and are going out with Dave Newell for three days fishing in that week.

I thought this may be of interest to the Gloucester community to show people from so far away are coming to visit your city.

Any further info you may need if this is of any interest to your newspaper let  me know.

Kind Regards.

Peter Turrell

Jane Austen Quote of the Week from Greg Bover

“Silly things cease to be silly if they are done by sensible people in an impudent way.”

Jane Austen (1775-1817)

Austen lived and wrote extensively about the life of the minor English gentry of the 18th and early 19th centuries. Her first successful novel, Sense and Sensibility, was published anonymously, and although she enjoyed some fame later in life it was not until the 1940’s that she gained the dedicated following her work garners today. Her other best known books, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, and Emma, set the tone for highly detailed seriocomic romantic fiction describing the dependency of the women of that time on the correct marriage to assure their standing and security. Few details of her quiet domestic life are known, including the cause of her relatively early death.

Shelter Happenings

Super Seniors to the Rescue!  Super Cats to the Rescue!

Cape Ann Animal Aid is proud to announce the launch of a new adoption program designed to find homes for older cats. The Super Seniors Cat Adoption Program waives the adoption fee of all cats ages six years and older in an effort to promote their adoption and decrease their time spent waiting for a home. The program was made possible in part thanks to a generous grant from Lil BUB’s Big Fund for the ASPCA which goes towards medical care for these senior cats, helping us put their best paw forward.

Volunteer Favorite: Buster Brown

Look at that smile! Buster does tricks!

We love all of the animals here at our Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter. But sometimes, staff and volunteers find themselves with a favorite. Volunteer, Karen A., has a soft spot for 8 year old Min Pin, Buster Brown:

“You won’t find a cuter or more enthusiastic little buddy. Always eager to play, Buster Brown will jump through hoops for you! He’s smart enough to learn lots of new tricks and will curl up and snuggle at the end of the day!”

Buster Brown has been waiting for his fur-ever home for over 110 days now. To help this cutie get adopted, we’ve waived his adoption fee.

Rocky’s Field TripRocky

Here at our Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter, our dedicated staff and volunteers spend lots of quality time with the dogs and cats to make their stay as enriching as possible. As part of these efforts, one of our pups with special adoption needs, named Rocky, enjoyed a field trip to Stacey Blvd. in Gloucester and we caught it all on film!
See the Field Trip video on our Facebook page

Painting Info Requested-

Hello!
Recently I purchased a painting of Annisquam Lighthouse dated 1901 and signed C E Dennison.  In my internet search your name popped up, yet the century is way off.  Are you by chance related to this artist?  If so, can you provide any biographical information about his career.  it would be much appreciated.
Sincerely,
John Woytowicz
