LISA STEINOCHER ASKS- “DO I DESERVE A STICKER?”

Posted on June 27, 2014 by Joey C 4 comments

Well the picture above provides your answer Smile

Lisa writes yesterday from home-

Back on Southern soil and had boiled peanuts and barbecue ribs for my fourth instead of clam chowder and Virgilio’s rolls ( hand cut with sesame seeds like they always use to make:)
I wanted to thank you for taking the time to visit with my dad, daughter and me.  And I can’t thank you enough for my stickers.  I really appreciate it! I’m very proud of them:)
Ill continue to enjoy staying connected to my Gloucester roots through your wonderful website.
Take care and best wishes,
Lisa Steinocher (aka the missed placed Yankee who lives too far inland)

Beer, Blues & BBQ @ Dog Bar

Beer, Blues & BBQ @ Dog Bar

Remember Smokin’ Jim, the grill master of East Gloucester?  We do and we missed his authentic hardwood charcoal BBQ, so we tracked him down and pulled him out of retirement and gave him and his big black smoker a little piece of Rogers St on the Dog Bar’s Patio this Friday and Saturday from 6 – 10pm.

Starting this weekend, in addition to our full menu, we will be featuring Jim’s famous BBQ for eat in or take out.

And what goes with BBQ better than beer and blues!  Friday night at 9pm, we are proud to host American Roots artist, Marc Berger and Ride (www.marcbergermusic.com).  They are supporting the release of their new, critically acclaimed album “Ride” with a national tour, and we are very happy to host them as their only north shore appearance.

On Saturday – Joe Mack is back  and being backed by one of the best rhythm sections around – Joey Pafumi and Ron Belben.  Joe plays smoking originals as well as covers by Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Joe Satriani and Jimi Hendrix (www.joemack.com).

The first picture is “sport” locating bed bug training aids (live bugs in a vial) during a recent inspection in Boston.

Gloucester Community Development Department Announces Expanded Social Media Program

The City of Gloucester’s Community Development Department has expanded its social media program under the unifying theme, “Gloucester 2.0.” The program, launched earlier this year on Facebook, Twitter and now via a blog on WordPress.com, will allow the City to share stories of residents, businesses, non-profit organizations, the working waterfront, innovation and much more directly with the community and key stakeholders.

“Gloucester’s story is rich and vibrant, which makes social media the ideal platform to exchange ideas, highlight the City’s  initiatives to foster innovation on the working waterfront and across the city as well as promote our lively arts and culture scene,” said  Tom Daniel, Community Development Director. “The administration is excited by this initiative and hopes that everybody in Gloucester who uses Facebook and Twitter will engage with our program.”

The Gloucester 2.0 Facebook page will highlight event information, digital images, news and conversation about the Community Development Department’s ongoing work. The Twitter account will provide brief updates regarding upcoming events, blog posts and community news. The Gloucester 2.0 Blog will provide comprehensive insight into important Gloucester developments, undertakings and issues. The Community Development Department is committed to ensuring that Gloucester 2.0 is an immersive, interactive experience that benefits residents and stakeholders by providing useful information about City initiatives.

Residents can engage in social media programs at the following addresses:

In addition, the city is a destination for thousands of visitors who visit the harbor and its beaches during the summertime. Rockport Flaming Inferno

Hi Joey,

Another year, another inferno. I repeat myself, but this event is an under publicized gem that never fails to impress. I brought more friends this year from

faraway, over-the-bridge towns, and they returned home with with stories to tell their families.  “The top of the pile was sixty feet tall.”  “The fire singed the lens of the Hubble Telescope.” True, of course, and I believe I saw Vulcan with his hammer, but I believe the real story lies in the community that has created this supremely playful night.

Gloucester MA Chief Of Police To Be Tossed

The Gloucester Police Department is very active in supporting the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR), which is the law enforcement fundraising arm of the Massachusetts Special Olympics. Events that are sponsored by the LETR include the "Tip A Cop" fundraiser, the Cruiser Convoy, Polar Plunges, various 5 and 10k races, and "Toss Your Boss". All of these culminate in the "Guardian of the Flame" ceremony in which sworn police officers carry the Special Olympic Torch across the host country of the International Special Olympics.

I am proud to say that, after an event held in April here in town, the Gloucester Police Department currently holds the state record for a single night "Tip A Cop" fundraiser. I feel that we, as a police department, have a responsibility to use our positions to do the best we can for such worthy causes as the Special Olympics.

As such, on July 19 at 8am, I will be "tossed" from the 27th floor of the Hyatt Regency in Boston for the annual "Toss Your Boss" Fundraiser. If you’ve ever wanted to see the Chief of Police tossed off a building….pony up!!!. For the biggest single contributor…I will wear their choice of outfit (within reason…).

I know the timeframe is tight. I am humbly asking for any contribution, however small, you can make. And additionally, for any networking you can provide to help me raise money for the Massachusetts Special Olympics. Thanks so much in advance for considering this cause.

Donations may be dropped off at the Police Station c/o Christina Melillo. Checks should be made out to "Massachusetts Special Olympics"

Respectfully,

Leonard Campanello

Chief of Police

City of Gloucester, MA
