Join us for an epic 2016 Seafood Throwdown to celebrate Cape Ann Farmers Market’s 10th Anniversary!
Cape Ann Farmers Market, North Atlantic Marine Alliance, Backyard Growers, Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Association, and the City of Gloucester are partnering to highlight Cape Ann’s local farming and fishing community.
During the Throwdown from 4-5:30, two local chefs – one team from Passports plus a mystery second team – will compete in a cooking competition inspired by local seafood using the farmers market as their pantry. While they cook, Backyard Growers will lead two short cooking demonstrations designed to help home gardeners find fun ways to use the healthy food they’re growing in their own backyards – and get their kids involved in the process!
After the throwdown, Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken and founder of the Gloucester Fishermen’s Wives Association Angela Sanfilippo will lead their own fun demonstration of how to cook whiting, a local underutilized fish, at home in your own kitchen.
Come by Stage Fort Park this Thursday and pick up some cooking tips with your locally grown vegetables and locally caught fish!

(Gloucester, MA) – August 15, 2016 – The City of Gloucester has successfully won an appeal to support restorative work at Lane’s Cove Breakwater with an estimated total of $1,356,195 expected to be received from MEMA (Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency).
“We are grateful that the city’s appeal was successful in order to gain the necessary funds for the critical needs at Lane’s Cove Seawall,” said Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken. “Our city needs help from our state and federal partners to ensure we have safe infrastructures, and this appeal shows we are continuing to fight for results.”

Cupping – Giant, round bruises seen on Michael Phelps’ back and shoulders has drawn a lot of people’s attention during this year’s Olympics. You may also recall a similar reaction when actors Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Anniston, wearing backless dresses while walking the runway revealed the same bruising a number of years ago. All the attention has increased awareness of cupping as a means to ‘release tension; and ‘relax the muscles.’ Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been around for thousands of years, as practiced in China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. TCM practices may consist of a variety of techniques such as acupuncture, herbs, cupping, tui na, qi gong, and moxibustion.

Hey Joe,
Was wondering if you could put something up on GMG about drones and ask the owners not to fly them over the Lannon. We have been sailing at the breakwater and a drone has been following us around and really bothering our passengers on 3 occasions. I reached out to Craig Kimberly and Martin Delvecio and it’s not them, are the only people I know with them.
Anything will help.
