Mayor’s 2016 Year End Review & Thank You
Dear Gloucester Residents,
As 2016 winds down, I want to pause to express my gratitude to everyone for all that you have done to help move Gloucester forward. Many believe that this year was tougher than other years, but I want to reflect on the positive and look ahead with renewed hope as we enter 2017.
To start the year, our administration and the new City Council were sworn in and we committed ourselves to working together on behalf of all Gloucester residents. We are lucky to have so many dedicated public officials who are willing to roll up their sleeves and work hard on the issues that we face as a community.
I want to thank all City Councilors, city employees, board and commission members, volunteers, organizers, members of the business community and everyone else who has helped to build on the progress that we have made. No one…

Tonno Pork Chop Is Outrageous
The world’s greatest pork chop and no where else is even close is @tonnogloucester Before I had it, if you had asked me if I’d ever considered ordering a pork chop at a restaurant and I would have looked at you like you were crazy. But on opening night the construction crew told me I had to try it. Boy am I glad I did. Outrageous.

Your Bridge to Health; Promoting Optimal Wellness for Body, Mind and Spirit
The World Has Lost ‘Bright Lights’ with the passing of ‘Mother-Daughter’ actors Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher. Two strong women known for their resiliency and humor, especially in the face of adversity and mental health issues. May they be together in everlasting peace. Peace to their family and friends.
A Home in the Meadow – (The tidal beach pictured in this video reminds me of Good Harbor Beach.)
Sung by Debbie Reynolds in the movie How the West Was Won, now seems a prelude to welcome her ‘home.’ Carrie Fisher died from complications of a heart attack. Her mother, Debbie Reynolds died one day later. While it is has been reported that Debbie Reynolds died from a stroke, dying from a broken heart is a real syndrome, and severe stress can cause the release of stress hormones that elevate blood pressure, constrict…

Embrace the spirit of giving back after the holiday season, and support Backyard Growers for another year of gardening!
If spring can’t come soon enough, consider our Give-a-Garden/Get-a-Garden program and start planning for warmer days! By joining this program, you’ll provide a garden and seeds for a low-income family in Gloucester. And you’ll receive your own backyard garden bed to grow vegetables all summer long!
Already a seasoned gardener? Share your knowledge and skills through our mentor program. As a mentor, you will provide support for new gardeners, help out at our workshops, and enjoy hands-on garden time at community plots!

Before The Flood
A Movie that Will Move You:
Join us for a screening of Before The Flood
As we watch the presidential cabinet fill with representatives of the fossil fuel industry and climate deniers, it is important for we the people to maintain a grounding in sound science and activism. To this end, on Thursday January 5, 2017, 7 PM at the Cape Ann Cinema, the leaders from our environmental breakout session organized a screening to show excerpts from Fisher Stevens and Leonardo DiCaprio’s new film, Before The Flood. This epic documentary follows DiCaprio as he explores the dramatic and destructive changes that climate warming has brought to our planet, looks, unflinchingly into the future, and explores the changes required by governments, industry, and people if we are to survive.
“Try to have a conversation with anyone about climate change, and people just tune out. And the problem seems to be getting worse, and worse, and worse,” DiCaprio’s voice-over takes us into the crux of the film. However, it is our voices that will lead us out as viewers become participants: responding to what we are seeing, learning about organizations on the North Shore galvanized to address these issues, and generating our own ideas on how each of us can stand in the path of climate warming and reclaim our planet.
Host: NorthShore 350, Citizens Climate Lobby and Action Together North Shore, MA: our new North Shore Environmental Coalition
- Location: The Cape Ann Cinema & Stage at 21 Main St in Gloucester
- Doors open at 7, Film excerpt starts at 7:30, discussion to follow
- Movie: Before the Flood
- Admission: $11
We hope to see you there!
