The second Cape Ann Pride celebration was a ton of fun. 

Organized by the Cape Ann Pride Coalition and the Greater Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce, Cape Ann Pride Week included a kick-off party at DRIFT, a “Pride on the Pier” dance on the Maritime Gloucester pier, pride religious services at several churches, a free bowling day for LGBTQIA+ youth, families and friends at Cape Ann Lanes, a rooftop cocktail party at Beauport Hotel, a dance for teens at MAGMA, karaoke at Harbor9 Golf, an “Embrace the Rainbow” cabaret at Rockport Music, and pride flag raisings in multiple towns.

Cape Ann Pride Week, which takes place during Pride Month in June, celebrates the LGBTQIA+ community and culture on Cape Ann. Check out some of the photos below!

For the past 21 years, Maritime Gloucester’s Ocean Explorers program has brought marine science education to every 3rd, 4th, & 5th grader in the Gloucester Public Schools. We visit the classrooms in all 4 elementary schools and welcome these students to our campus to participate in exciting hands-on experiential learning in our Sea Pocket Aquarium, the Marine Science Education Center, onboard the Schooner Ardelle and so much more. Over the course of the school year, your kids interact with our educators a total of 6 times, offering invaluable access to the harbor, bridging a unique connection with our local youth in our own blue backyard. 21 years participating in our curriculum equates to the educational engagement of over 13,500 students! 

As we mark this year’s final 5th grade graduation celebration, we want to emphasize the importance of this program in our schools and we urge you to consider supporting its continuation. Maritime Gloucester annually raises the funds to sustain Ocean Explorers as our gift to the community, but we now are urgently seeking funding to keep this program alive for elementary students across Cape Ann and beyond. I wanted to reach out to help pass along important information about the 250^thBattle of Bunker Hill Reenactment happening in Gloucester’s Stage Fort Park on June 21^st and 22^nd.  There have been several questions about the schedule and logistics so we wanted to help keep you informed.  With thousands of visitors expected that weekend, this event will have a significant impact on area businesses.

The events will take place on Saturday from 8am – 5pm and Sunday from 8am – 2pm.  There will be free shuttles available for attendees from the MBTA stations as well as various designated parking areas around the city.  You can find the most up to date information including a full schedule and transportation details athttps://battleofbunkerhill250.com/

Street sweeping will start at 12:00 AM early Thursday morning (just after midnight Wednesday night) and take place on these roads:

This presentation will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1123 Washington St. Gloucester, on Saturday, June 28 at 4PM. This is a free event. All are welcome

David Weeden, a member and Tribal Historic Preservation Officer of the Wampanoag Tribe in Mashpee, MA will talk about his tribe’s history of living lightly along the coast before Europeans arrived in New England and how traditional ways are being adopted to restore the health of degraded ecosystems in Mashpee.  

Indigenous peoples throughout the world have known how to live sustainably and in harmony with nature.  This program is devoted to the memory of Dr. Judith Oleson, a member of St. Paul Church and expert in international reconciliation.  As Cape Ann deals with the increasing threats from climate change coming to our shores, we will need to rethink everything about how we relate to and steward our community and our ecosystems at risk.  

According to Reverend Sue Kohler-Arsenault of the Annisquam Village Church, 

“Some of the most significant voices in the interfaith movement to address the climate crisis come from Native communities.  We are fortunate that someone who is putting his own community’s practices into use can help guide us towards next steps here.”

The event is presented by the Interfaith Committee of the Cape Ann Climate Coalition with support from a grant from NOAA.
