A Bandersnatch is a fictional creature from Lewis Carroll’s 1872 novel Through the Looking-Glass and 1874 poem “The Hunting of the Snark”. Although neither work describes the appearance of a Bandersnatch in great detail, in “The Hunting of the Snark” it has a long neck and snapping jaws, and both works describe it as ferocious and extraordinarily fast. Through the Looking-Glass implies that Bandersnatches may be found in the world behind the looking-glass,[1] and in “The Hunting of the Snark”, a Bandersnatch is found by a party of adventurers after crossing an ocean.[2] Bandersnatches have appeared in various adaptations of Carroll’s works; they have also been used in other authors’ works and in other forms of media.”

T/V Kings Pointer in Gloucester Harbor

KINGS POINT, N.Y., April 17, 2014 – On Saturday evening, the T/V Kings Pointer, the United States Merchant Marine Academy’s (USMMA) newest training vessel tied up at her home port, Kings Point. The vessel, formerly the M/V Liberty Star, once served as a Solid Rocket Booster Recovery Vessel for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). On September 14^th, 2012, she arrived at Kings Point and was transferred to the Academy during a formal Plaque and Key ceremony.  “We are thrilled to finally have the T/V Kings Pointer back at Kings Point and are also very pleased to see her tied up at a brand new Mallory Pier,” said Rear Admiral James A. Helis, Superintendent. “The newest  Kings Pointer will be an integral part of the training and development of our midshipmen. It will complement and enhance the Sea-Year experience of every Kings Pointer.”

“Gloucester City Council Meeting: Drinking Water Fluoridation

On behalf of the Cape Ann Fluoride Action Network, I would like to announce efforts to reconsider the fluoridation of Gloucester and Rockport water supplies. At present, approximately 60% of Massachusetts cities and towns are fluoridated, as is about 70% of the United States population. On the contrary over 90% of Europe is not fluoridated. Here in Massachusetts, the decision to fluoridate is left up to the cities and towns, but often times the decisions have not included registered voters.”
