I am a live music advocate and seek to share the news of bands playing at local venues in my home town. Being drawn to blues mostly but embrace all kinds of music. One does not have to go over the bridge to hear some real fine tunes, however there are some bands that draw you elsewhere. I hope this blog is a good use to you as it is to me.
Enjoy,
Joanne

Dan King and KBMG at the Dogbar on Friday, October 15
Dan King and KBMG (King, Dave Brown, Dave Mattacks, Wolf Ginandes) will play the Dogbar in downtown Gloucester on Friday, October 15. KBMG welcomes guest artist Brandi Emma, who will play the first set of the evening.
ABOUT THE BAND: KBMG are a serious, thought provoking, veteran Folk Rock Band who’s members have recorded and performed with the most successful (critical and chart topping), names in rock, folk and country music, including: Paul McCartney, Fairport Convention, Simon and Garfunkel, George Harrison, Roseanne Cash, Julian Lennon, Billy Joel, Elton John, Richard Thompson, Jimmy Page, Nick Drake, Jethro Tull, and many more. Lead by timeless songwriter Dan King, KBMG generate a musical engine that can scream and purr with a dynamic range of song and lyric. These four gentlemen have seen the bars, coffeehouses, clubs, stadiums, fairs, top studio sessions and theaters over their extensive careers in the music business; they continue to be in-demand live and recording studio musicians today. Their recordings and live experiences have grown into a relationship that DM describes as “not just four great musicians playing together but a real band with a strong and moving sound.” (www.danielscottking.com)
DAVID BROWN (dobro, electric guitar): David Brown’s ten-year stint in the 80s during Billy Joel’s heyday brought him round the globe many times over, a wall of gold and platinum and the experience of being in the top Billboard recording group for the decade.
DAVE MATTACKS (drums): Dave Mattacks has a discography that reads like a who’s who of folk, rock and pop. DM continues to enjoy accolades with Fairport Convention (Fairport’s Liege and Lief voted greatest folk rock album ever), which only solidifies his already legendary status. He also continues to tour currently in the drum seat with Roseanne Cash and many others.
WOLF GINANDES (bass): It’s safe to say that bassist Wolf Ginandes’ status around Boston has been elevated to Guru. Ginandes is the master of groove and feel for KBMG. With a deep knowledge of how things work, Ginandes is also an expert guitar and bass maker, and restorer with over 20 years experience at the Berklee Musical Instruments service center.
DAN KING(singer/songwriter, guitar): Bringing all this talent together is master singer/songwriter Dan King, who became friends with these legendary, professional musicians after working with them on his many solo and live albums. The chemistry worked and King’s songs won their hearts. They saw his music as something special and worth standing behind as personified in their latest release, Western Color.
SPECIAL GUEST, BRANDI EMMA (singer/songwriter): Originally from Massachusetts, Emma now lives and works in Los Angeles, CA and is touring in support of her forthcoming EP Photographic Memory (brandiemma.com). Jason Lent had this to say about Emma’s music: “Minimal arrangements adorn the songs…[and] Emma’s voice has the power to still a chatty coffee shop and enough depth to color the emotional spectrum. ‘Every day is right as rain/until you come home drunk again’ sets the mood on ‘Let It Go’ and Emma’s voice edges close to breaking as she sorts out her heart.“

Please come to this show and socialize with old & new friends and dance the night away to the Classic Rock sounds of Cape Ann’s own Full Circle! See you there!
92.5 The River 15th Birthday with Guster
Passion for the Art
I got an email from GoodMorningGloucester doing a video about Jon Sarkin a local artist in our hometown, Gloucester. I really enjoyed watching this. It lead me to Jon’s website and I got to see the makings of the artwork for Guster’s new album “Easy.Wonderful’. I was totally intrigued. Hence this letter to follow. It is so amazing to me how they do all of this work and then the finished product. I hope you will take time to visit these videos that are being posted. I have to say that seeing all of this brought tears of joy to my eyes and compelled me to share all of this art with you. Artists and musicians are creators with such passion and I can understand it because I receive it the same way they give it. I hope you enjoy it too.

p.s. Look at what I got in my email from 92.5 The River
After all of this I submitted a letter to 92.5 The River for the chance to see Guster. Needless to say I did not win the chance to go. A good friend of mine Cynthia Sisco got a call from Irene Collins who works for the river and she invited Cindy to see Guster and to celebrate 92.5 15th Birthday. Well the rest is history. Cindy told Irene that I was trying to get passes so Irene was kind enough to put me on the list. Now Cindy is famous for doing kind acts like this. She has also been responsible for getting airtime on The River’s Home Grown segment http://www.wxrv.com/onair/homegrown.php for musicians such as Chelsea Berry, Fly Amero, Bingo Fridays and Brad Byrd .
The music at this venue performed by Guster was excellent. I mentioned to Cindy at one point that this has to be the best quality of live music I have ever heard and she said yes they are a very tight band. I mean, what you hear coming through the sound system. Things have stood out to me before like melodious vocals, an awesome bass player, rippin lead guitarists and wild music but all around quality, this show was it. Not blasting your eardrums out, sweet harmony, and no pronounced off key notes any where, that I noticed. The audience was certainly in love with Guster and I can see why. At one point this sweet girl standing in front of me to the left offered to have me get closer to take a photo and she even took my cup to hold to make it more comfortable for me to do so. Now that was sweet. I then asked if she wanted to be my daughter. They have a wholesome happy thing generating out to the fan base and you could certainly feel it with the unity and all. I heard so many people there singing along like they were part of the band, and that they were. For the last song Guster and his band came onto the floor to be with their fans. This was different and so intimate.
After all of this I suddenly realized that I had to have a souvenir of this event so off to to take more pictures and to purchase the special edition of Guster’s new CD “Easy. Wonderful” It’s so cool to have my own piece of Jon Sarkins art as well as Guster’s music.
Immediately after this I got to meet Irene Collins from 92.5 The River and thank her for this opportunity. Right after this Cindy and I met and talked to Chad Carlberg ( his lovely daughter who is in the Concept Video for Guster’s “Do You Love Me” and Emile Doucette who were major in the making of the videos for Guster’s CD.
Here are just a few photos, videos and slide show of the event. It was hard holding the camera up in the air in a dimly lit room to get photos so beware of the imperfections.
Enjoy,

Greg Luttrell is a singer & guitarist from Detroit, MI who relocated to Boston and gets around doing performances of all kinds of feel good music. Whether performing with one of many bands or as a solo act, Greg’s energy and delivery are a unique experience. Luttrell is an outstanding guitar player and his voice has been likened to Marvin Gaye, Lenny Kravitz, Stevie Wonder and Brad Nowell. He honed his skills playing in blues and cover bands in the 90s and formed his own funk and soul band, Michigan Blacksnake who released Michigan Blacksnake(1997) and the road at a breakneck pace. They were nominated for a Boston Music Award as Best Funk Band in 2000 and continued playing concerts and festivals for the next three years. They shortened the name to Blacksnake and released Mind Over Matter(2004) and played 200+ shows that year and for years after all over the US and in the Caribbean. In between runs with his bands, Greg has thrilled crowds from NY to LA with his solo acoustic performances. With a song list topping 400 tunes and a deep knowledge of genres, there’s almost no crowd he can’t jam with. He formed his own band again in 2005, the Greg Luttrell Band, a full band version of his acoustic act where genres blend seamlessly and songs evolve every night for whatever kind of party is happening. Thursday Night Blues Jam @ The Rhumb Line to Host Evan Goodrough
From Mr. Dave Sags,
MCI Concord is proud to present the triumphant return of Mr. Evan Goodreau to our stage this week. One of our most popular performers, Mr. Gee is a fine glitarist, gunslinger , and frontman. Knows how to make it happen. We’ll all know when we get there. He’ll be rubbin’ our noses in all kinds of genres, and we’ll be scramblin’ to keep up with him. Have mercy.
Keith Lockhart is lighting the fuse as we shoot Mr. Jim Gwin, Fred’s brother, out of the cannon of love and into the maw of the beast. Hopefully, he’ll land on his drum kit, where he belongs. As usual, Mr. Greg T. will be on bedspring gootar, and I’ll be radioing in coordinates, just to see what happens. A flight of fancy; you should alight and see.

Samantha Farrell:
If I had to describe her, I’d say she was a mix between Norah Jones and Corrine Bailey Rae. Samantha Farrell is a sparkling young singer-songwriter based out of Boston, who has been wowing critics and audiences alike, across the country with her unique mixture of jazz and folk-rock influenced pop. Described by national music magazine Relix as possessing “prodigious and undulating vocals that are delivered with rare, swinging passion,” and as a “soulful mix of Van Morrison’s country hospitality, Ella Fitzgerald’s jazzy range and Fiona Apple’s modern honesty,” Farrell has been touring the North east in support of her latest two efforts; Her full length album “Luminous” was produced by the late LeRoi Moore, a founding member and saxophone player for the Dave Matthews Band. “Luminous,” a completely independent release, sky rocketed to #7 on the national pop iTunes charts from it’s formidable grass roots support. Her music has been heard on major network television shows such as “Shark” (NBC), Privileged and One Tree Hill (CW). For more information, find her on the web at www.samanthafarrell.com
Friday October 1
Ryan Faraday:
At 24 years old, Ryan Fardy has had a fantastic start to his 9-year career. He has played to crowds all over New England and the United States (Las Vegas, California, Florida…etc), and even Canada. He has opened for the legendary Chaka Khan, Leon Russell, Edgar Winter, Mountain, Snoop Dogg, Rick Derringer, Hoobastank, and more. He was also the featured cover story for Boston Blues Magazine at the age of 18. With an upbringing on the Boston Area blues scene, Ryan has created his own genre, mixing Blues, Rock, Funk, R&B, Soul, and Pop. He is striving to make his songwriting ability known even though he still holds the “guitarslinger” tag throughout the Boston area. His shows combine the inventiveness of Jimi Hendrix and Jeff Beck, the passion of Eric Clapton, and the on stage intensity of Stevie Ray Vaughan. Audiences typically find themselves in awe of his command of the guitar and of the stage, and have trouble believing that they are witnessing the talents of someone so young. However, they don’t have any trouble believing that they are seeing a performer who has a very bright future. Check out more at www.ryanfardymusic.com

Chelsea Berry goes to the House of Blues Foundation Room
Hey, music lovers!
On the 29th of October (the Friday night before Halloween), the Chelsea Berry Band will be playing
the House of Blues Foundation Room on Lansdowne Street in Boston.
Thanks to those of you who have ventured out and supported me in Boston these last few months..
Thanks to those of you who have ventured out and supported me in Boston these last few months..
we have been rebooked because of the great crowds we brought in this summer (that’s you!!!).
The band: Pete Koeplin on drums. David Brown on guitar. Joe Cardoza on bass.
Also, a soon-to-be-announced guest violinist.. and two guest singers!
We are working on a new sound… stripped-down, more acoustic, a little more jazz influence and a ton of groove.
This show will be the unveiling of that new sound, some new originals, and a VERY exciting night for us.
As I have discussed the idea of this show with Gloucester folks, they are CHOMPING at the bit for a fun night out in Boston.. great tunes, great food.. and no worries on driving. Yes, that means THE BUS.
Dawn Caraway came up with the bus idea for our June show (and I personally think it’s the best idea she’s ever had except maybe for the Crazy Rum Drink she dreamed up and created at the Dog Bar.. WOW. Check it out. And tell her I sent you. And watch out because you’ll be needing a taxi afterwards.)
This House of Blues show will be an earlier one.. it starts at 7:30 and ends just before 10….. FUN! That means the bus leaves Gloucester at 6:30 and returns home by eleven.
Send a reply email to chelseaberryinfo@gmail.com if you are interested.. bus tix are $15 and tix at the HOB are $10, so $25 gets you a night on the town, worry-free. There is food and a full bar, so come hungry and thirsty and ready to rock.
Please reply ASAP….. there has been enough interest in this show that we may need to charter 2 buses. Fan-tastic.
If you are coming from somewhere other than Gloucester, disregard the bus part of this email and just
show up at 7:15 at the HOUSE OF BLUES FOUNDATION ROOM on October 29th!!! We can’t wait to see you!!!
Hope this email finds you all well.. thanks again and happy fall!
Love,
Chelsea
Chelsea
