I am a live music advocate and seek to share the news of bands playing at local venues in my home town. Being drawn to blues mostly but embrace all kinds of music. One does not have to go over the bridge to hear some real fine tunes, however there are some bands that draw you elsewhere. I hope this blog is a good use to you as it is to me.
Enjoy,
Joanne

Hello everyone!

Special Guest: ROCKY & KERI!

Rocky Kramm & Keri Anderson have been wowing crowds all
over New England under the alias, “Whalebone Farmhouse”.
“Rock” is a genius guitarist and arranger. Keri is a classic
blues diva, reminiscent of a young Tracy Nelson. Her voice
is as big as Kansas and stretches far over the rainbow. You

Inge Berge: Writer of Songs. He performs as well as he writes.
The songs are interesting, catchy, unique, genre-bending
originals. The sound is song-oriented rock with elements of
ambient, electronica and psychedelia. Influences include David
Bowie, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Velvet Underground… and
sometimes even Abba! Berge recently released a mainstream,
melodic, rootsy CD titled “10 True Things & A Filthy Dirty Lie”.

Hey Joanne,
Wanted to let you know about my special guest this Wednesday at Giuseppes, sort of a cross between Carole King and Kate Bush: Wednesday, 10/12 at the Mermaid Sessions Open-Mic at Giuseppes is pianist/chanteuse, Lainey SchoolTree. Lainey SchoolTree is a Boston-based composer, NeoVaudeville performer, and audio engineer/producer. She is currently bandleader of SchoolTree, a Progressive Pop band integrating elements of rock, pop, classical, and musical theater. Past achievements include being one half of Boston’s dubious darlings The Steamy Bohemians, co-founder of the acclaimed long-running variety show “Jerkus Circus,” and Corps Musical Director for the hi-end, low-brow variety show “Bent Wit Cabaret.” She also works as a puppeteer and writer with the Elephant Tango Ensemble. www.laineyschooltree.com, www.schooltreemusic.com
The open-mic has been going very well. Hope you can make it down. Wednesdays, 7:30-10:30pm.
Sign-up at 7pm. Giuseppes 2 Main St. Gloucester.

Who is Lainey SchoolTree? Is she a comedian or a musician? A performer or a producer? An artist or an engineer? The answer to all these questions and some others is: yes. I’m a Boston-based composer,…

Prime Rib Specials!
Wednesdays Only!
Hello everyone!
Wednesday, October 5th
Special Guest: KATRIN!
Following a long and fine tradition of celebrity in the singular
name (Cher, Madonna, Liberace, Moses, etc.), Katrin Roush
earns the right to be referred to simply as “Katrin”. She has
long since paid her dues, having honed her compelling song-
writing, guitar playing and vocal skills in chic venues through-
out the United States and Europe. Her latest CD, titled “Frail
to Fearless”, features such legendary notables as Tony Levin
and John Sebastian (among others)… and was in fact pro-
duced by Peter Gabriel’s Jerry Marotta – who happens also to
be a personal friend and former bandmate of mine (Orleans)
and David Brown’s (Garland Jeffreys). Katrin is clearly being
taken seriously by all the right people in the world music
industry today, and it is truly a gift for us all to have her here
in Gloucester.

Thursday – 9:00 to 12:00 ~ Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line
Dave Says,
We’re gonna tilt the event horizon our way as we re-present one of our faves, Ms. Lisa Marie, to our stage this week, in order to induce shortness of pants amongst our loyal fans. Crooner, belter, and filia mystica, take your pick: she’ll wrestle your eardrums to the floor and make you scream “Uncle!”
Turning the screws up a notch will be that Irish idol, Mr. Benny Benson, on mortar and pestle, and that rolling chassis chord mechanic, Mr. John Hyde, on accordion. Due to my swollen rubato, I’ll be staying home, but I will be ably covered by Mr. Johnny P., who’s absolutely thrilled to have any gig on a Thursday nite! Of course, Mr. Greg T. will be there, frantically trying to save enough money to buy a new hat. A marvelous night for all!

We are back.
We are playing.
The Honky Tonk Women of Gloucester will be performing at the Gloucester block party downtown at 7 pm on Saturday in front of the
Sovereign Bank (across from CVS). Thank you,
Sheila
Some great news from Gloucester’s own Bandit Kings
Hola
What’s the Good Word?
The BKs have been toiling hard at Bang-A-Song Studios this summer, working with good friend and co-captain of the kool kids, Tony Goddess. From what can be heard through the carpeted walls, they are amassing quite a collection of amazing mixes. The band gets major points for the songs but credit the good noise to friend and guest producer, Mr. Dave Mattacks. They’ve also had visits from Russ Lawton (who can be heard most of the year with a little music group you may be familiar with, the Trey Anastasio Band) and Nelson Bragg (on a short break between world travels with the Brian Wilson band). The Bandit Kings look forward to sharing the fruits of this labor soon, and are so happy to have such great inspiration from these fantastic musicians and all of you (awwww).

Coming up!
THURSDAY, September 15: The BKs move on down the line again to play the 2011 NE England Pop Festival at the Rosebud Bar in Somerville! The Pop Fest is a magical musical festival celebrating and showcasing the pop music of New England musicians on Sept 15-17. There are a ton of great bands playing, including Eddie Japan and Preacher Roe, but since this is our mailing list we are crossing our toes you’ll make a special effort to catch our hour-long set of hot originals at 10pm on Thursday 9/15
• Doors are at 7pm/BKs at 10pm/$10/21+/sorry to your tiny music lovin’ babies
• 381 Summer St. Davis Square, Somerville, MA
SATURDAY, September 17: The BKs play the Dogbar during the last Gloucester Block Party of the whole summer with their very favorite heavily bearded friend, Marc Wolfson Pinansky (of Township). Because we KNOW it’s gonna be great weather, the Dogbar will close off the parking lot and set up a mean outdoor club that makes for some pretty amazing sangin and dancin under the stars…More about Marc here
• 8pm/free/21+
• 65 Main St. Gloucester, MA
FRIDAY, September 23: Our last September gig will be at the Rhumbline with THREE special guests, who comprise the Dan Baker TRIO. The DBT will start the night off right and we’ll take it from there with more of your favorite BK tunes. See what Dan Baker is all about here

The Bandit Kings are:
Renee Dupuis on lead vocals and keys, Ann Marie, also on lead vocals, Dennis Monagle on drums, Joe Cardoza on bass, and Dan King on lead guitar. The Bandit Kings’ play original tunes written by the band members and hot b-sides by classic artists for longer shows. They have found bare-bones musical chemistry, including the rich meld of vocalists Ann Marie and Dupuis, who “both have voices that bring us back to the dawn of country rock, whisky soaked and raspy in just the right places while never crossing into the overpowering. The song is a rare treat that could have been tossed aside as a boring anachronism in less capable hands.” -Boston Band Crush

80s themed GFAA Newell Stadium Renewal Benefit Concert
We are so excited for our 80s themed GFAA Newell Stadium Renewal Benefit Concert Tonight Friday, September 9 at the Madfish on Rocky Neck.
Featuring SAFETY 80s band as well as the recently reunited Glostafarians!
According to the GFAA website “The GFAA is a nonprofit 501(c) community-based organization dedicated to the principle that all of Gloucester’s children should be able to participate in the sport of their choice, regardless of financial circumstances. As equally important is our belief that the student-athletes should be able to practice and play on safe and maintained facilities. The Newell Stadium Renewal Project is an initiative aimed at the future of Glouceser, its children, and their athletics. Over the years many of you have played, ran or just walked at Newell Stadium. Those days may be behind you now, but we need your help to ensure the present and future children of Gloucester get the same opportunities you did. They need a place where they can enjoy their sports, whether it be soccer, lacrosse, track and field, field hockey or football, a place they can feel safe, feel like a Fishermen, feel at home. That is our dream; to build a special place that every Gloucester Fishermen, past or future can be proud to call HOME. In order to accomplish this dream we need your help. Please take a minute to see what our dreams have inspired, and please think about lending your support.””This project is a reflection of our community” says Gloucester native and past GHS Fisherman, Dan King. “Currently Newell Stadium is in the most dire need of repair and is unusable for most events. The new stadium will host multiple public functions and be a shining example of pride for our city. It’s time to show the kids and the outside world that we care about where we came from and where we’re going.”
Local bands SAFETY 80s and the Glostafarians have donated their time and music to the cause. There is a $20 suggested donation/cover charge and doors will open at 8pm (21+ after 8pm). This event is sponsored by the class of 1988 alongside other GHS 80s classes. The general public is also more than welcome! There will also be a gathering at Rocky Neck Madfish Gallery Number 5 which will be free and all ages! Gallery 5 will display the plans for the new stadium, information and questions can be answered there by members of the GFAA, and donations of any size can be given there by people who want to take part and help but don’t want to go to the party. The Gallery will be family friendly starting at 6pm, Every Gloucester citizen is invited to come get informed and take part in making our city a better place!
