Gloucester Dog Park Entrance Pergola Construction Underway

Construction on Gloucester Dog Park’s entrance pergola has begun and will continue over the next two weeks.

Gloucester Dog Park, Entrance, dogs(Griffin, a yellow lab and Addison, a black lab wait patiently as their guardian Chris Fogarty of CF Carpentry Inc. frame the entrance pergola for the dog park.)

Before the school year ended, the students at Gloucester High School carpentry tech
department under the direction of Dana Griffin did one final project. They built the
boxes for the two sheds making up Gloucester Dog Park’s main entranceway pergola.
Then along came Chris Fogarty of CF Carpentry, Inc., along with Aaron Waybret, Bendan Fogarty and Phil Bazel who volunteered their time to frame the roof and pergola.
Greg Santos and David Dolloff of Glosta Builders also got into the act and volunteered
their manpower. Timberline generously donated materials and Precision Roofing is donating and installing the roof.  What a community project!! And excitement is building (no pun intended!!).

The Friends of Gloucester Dog Park would like to thank all of the above vendors and
crew for making this ‘roof-raising’ event a reality.

We are still in need of a professional fundraiser to get us to the home stretch and a
PR person to publicize each of our steps. So if that person is you, please contact us at
gloucesterdogpark@gmail.com We need you!!

And as a reminder, this park is being built Entirely by private donations. Please consider
donating. Make checks out to The Gloucester Fund, earmarked in the memo line ‘dog park’
45 Middle St, Gloucester, MA 01930.
Coming shortly on-line donations will be accepted. So stay tuned and visit
http://www.gloucesterdogpark.com as that information becomes available.
Your dog will love you for it!!!!

Pet of the Week-Pecan

pecan, pet of the week, cape ann animal aid

Hi!  The silly volunteer here keeps calling me sweety pie!   I keep telling her I am a dog, not a pie!  I think it is because my name is Pecan.  She keeps telling me what a sweet and cute pup I am.

I am a eight-month-old Retriever/Lab mix girl and I am black-and-white.   I am a playful pup and I still need a little training, but if you are up to the challenge a new pup can bring, I am up to learning and listening.   I promise you will never be bored, my tail will always be wiggling and my personality is always happy.   Please stop by the Cape Ann Animal Aid, now located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester and visit me.

Don’t forget Dog Day on Sunday, September 9 (rain date September 15) from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at State Fort Park overlooking beautiful Gloucester Harbor.  There will be a Pet Expo with mini games, agility, alumni photos, pet related vendors, food, games for people and dogs, bouncy house and more!  Fun for everyone!

You may visit us online at: CapeAnnAnimalAid.com or visit us in person which is even better because you will get to meet me, Pecan.  I have to run – now I am hungry thinking about pecan pie!

Pet of the Week-Emily Rose

I’m Emily Rose and I am staying at the Cape Ann Animal Aid located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester.  I am looking out the window and I see two people sitting in a truck with a dog sitting between them.  That might be me someday when I am adopted!  It looks like the driver is coming in to donate some items we need like paper towels, newspapers (glossy inserts removed, please) and some ceramic dishes for cats and dogs.  He must have seen our wish list.

The volunteers and staff are wonderful here.  I hear them talking about the Waterfront Festival at Stage Fort Park in Gloucester where we will have a booth August 18-19 from 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.   Dog Day will be on September 9 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Stage Fort Park.  You can check our website for details and other events coming up such as the 2nd Annual Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter Golf Tournament at Bass Rocks on October 15th by visiting: CapeAnnAnimalAid.com

Please always feel welcome to stop by the shelter and visit us as well.

Oh!! I hear another truck pulling up to the building and there isn’t a dog in it…maybe that might be my new owner….and it’s a bright red truck, my favorite color!!

Fun at the Block Party

This was my vacation week and Mike and I enjoyed an amazing stay-cation, right at home in Gloucester. I can’t believe I have to go back to work on Monday! Today we had an amazing day paddling with Cape Ann SUP (if you haven’t done this yet– what are you waiting for?) and tonight Mike and I spent the evening having fun at the Block Party.

First we had dinner at the The Franklin on their roof deck; which I didn’t know they had until tonight (the food was awesome and was devoured before I took any pics).

The Franklin Cape Ann

We also did some shopping and bought this awesome pillow from Pop Gallery. The pillow is double sided with the Kraken and ship on one side and a New England map/Jolly Roger on the opposite.  Perfect for our guest room.

I hope you got to enjoy the Block Party too. It’s obviously a great event to bring the community together and great for local businesses. Any local business that wasn’t involved is just silly. It’s a must-be event!
