Pet of the Week- Chester

Chester

Hello, my name is Chester, I am a five-year-old male Retriever/Golden mix.   I am at the Cape Ann Animal Aid (CAAA), located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester.   A few things to know.   I do like to chew a lot so I am learning to practice carrying a toy or ball around so I don’t get tempted to nibble on other things like my leash. I am a very smart and love to learn new things. I am happiest when with humans.  I do not like cats or dogs – kind of scared, so I am looking to be your one and only.  I am a special needs adoption because I have a heart murmur. The staff arranged for a consult with a vet and I even had an echo-cardiogram and ultrasound and the doctors said I will not require any medicine or extra treatment and I should have a normal lifestyle.  But the way, I just turned five, so it isn’t too late to have a birthday party for me!

Pet of the Week-Big Kitty

Big Kitty

Hello!  My name is Big Kitty, I am part Norwegian Forest.  I am a happy and mellow guy.  I like napping and playing with toys.  I am not so sure about the other cats yet, but my friends here at the Cape Ann Animal Aid said that I am learning to make new friends and those little things; I think they are called kittens.   I love attention and can’t wait to be adopted so I can curl up in a lap.   When the veterinarian did my check-up, they found I have a heart murmur.  My doctor didn’t recommend any treatment right now, but I may need more vet care and monitoring in the future.

If you think we would be a good match, why don’t you stop down to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester and we talk about how I can fit into your life and make you happier.  Also, I love the Red Sox and will you please wear some Red Sox gear when you come to adopt me so I may recognize you right away!

Bobby

Hello!  My name is Bobby, I am a four-month-old male black kitten (on the left).  I am eager to find a loving home. I am playful, curious and sweet. I am residing at the Cape Ann Animal Aid (CAAA), located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter, Four Paws Lane, Gloucester.  Please check our website at: CapeAnnAnimalAid.com

Also, we have good news to share about Margaret, the pup who has recently had surgery to remove her back leg.  She is doing well and recuperating fine.   We will let you know when she is available for adoption!  Now, back to me – my requests our simple, I love toys, I like attention, I want a family or person to love me as much as my friends here at the CAAA do…and remember, I am ready right now for adoption!

Pet of the Week-Charlene

Charlene

Hello!  I heard about the Blessing of the Animals that took place last Sunday in Rockport by The Rev. Karin Wade of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church.   I am hoping that next year I will be able to attend with my new family.

I am here at the Cape Ann Animal Aid (CAAA), located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter at Four Paws Lane in Gloucester.  I have just finishing raising my seven sweet babies and they all have been placed in forever homes and now I am ready to be adopted and looking for a family to love me like my Cape Ann Animal Aid family is.

If you would like to learn more about the CAAA, please visit: CapeAnnAnimalAid.com and even see more photos of me.

After raising seven kittens, I need a little rest and relaxation.   Oh, my name is Charlene!  I am hoping I will be adopted by someone who loves to spoils cats!

Pet of the Week-Cutter

Cutter, adopt, dog, cape ann animal aid

Hi!  My name is Cutter and I am handsome yellow lab pup who is one.  I am very sweet and affectionate and can’t wait to be adopted.  I like to walk and play in the back yard with the great staff here at the Cape Ann Animal Aid, located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester.   I am an adult rescue so I am looking for a home with older, calmer children or adults.

I have been asked to tell you about the Blessing of the Animals.   It will be held rain or shine on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. at Millbrook Meadow in Rockport in celebration of the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi.   The Rev. Karin E. Wade, rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church invites all Cape Ann pets to this short, ecumenical service.  Animals should be on a leash, lead or in a cage or carrier.  A donation will be taken to benefit the Cape Ann Animal Aid.  Please adopt me and bring me to the blessing!

I hope Cutter is adopted soon! It looks like he needs someone to play football with in the backyard.

Pet of the Week- Margaret

margaret

My name is Margaret – the pup in the middle!  I am being held by my good friend Jeff Hobbs who is a volunteer at the Cape Ann Animal Aid (CAAA), located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester.

I went to “Dog Day” with Jeff, held recently at Stage Fort Park, and we met some new friends – (L to R) Adam Madruga, Rachel Ketchopulos (seated) and Lauren O’Connor, all of Rockport.

I am not ready for adoption yet,  I arrived at CAAA and I am now in foster care. I was born with a birth defect that left me without a paw on my left hind leg.  While I can still bare some weight on it, doing this for too long will cause me pain and chronic infections, so I will soon have my leg amputated to ensure the best possible future for me. After my surgery I will be all set for a long and happy life, but first I need to have my surgery, recuperate and then I will be ready for loving home and family.

If you would like to make a donation to help me and other special needs animals like me, please send your check to Cape Ann Animal Aid, Four Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA and checks payable to Cape Ann Animal Aid and write “Margaret” in the memo.

If you have any questions or would like to make a donation on-line, please visit CapeAnnAnimalAid.com or contact Rebecca at 978-283-6055, ext. 23.
“Dog Day” was so much fun – thank you to the many people who attended! Jeff and I met so many new friends!

I must have given out at least 5,000 kisses!

Willow is still looking for her fur-ever home. If you think you may be a good fit for this beautiful girl, reach out and take her home!

willow9upnorth

Update from Mary Lou:

Thank you everyone who posted and cross posted.  It resulted in one very good lead and that is all it takes.  We were oh so close. Willow had met the interested party, they fell in love, Willow and his dog played non stop and we thought this is it. But it wasn’t to be for Willow and she now sits in the kennel waiting yet again. Everyone was heartbroken.  The physical environment of the house was just not right for Willow.  In addition to meeting the requirements of this special adopter, the physical environment has to be conducive to minimal stimulation.  Willow requires a completely fenced in back yard in a quiet setting since the home will be where she is most happy and will spend the vast majority of her time.  And so the search is still on. Here is her link again:

Urgent: Special Needs Dog needs Forever Home

willow

Willow-Female, pit bull mix

http://pitbull.rescueme.org/Massachusetts?13-08-12-00223

This little bundle of wiggles was found wondering the streets of Boxford. The kennel staff in the pound were quickly drawn to her happy nature. She weighs in at 39 pounds and is around 1-2 years old. She needs a special owner. She is frightened of new people. She does warm up nicely once she gets to know them but she is not good with strangers. She has been in intensive training for 2 months accessing her needs. She knows all her commands and is extremely bright. Willow’s options for adoption are limited. She needs an experienced handler and a structured environment- calm and quiet. No wild parties for this girl. She is happy simply spending time with her people and doggie friends. And she thrives on affection. She needs an adult loving home that will be patient and keep up her training. Her ideal home would have another dog and fenced-in yard where they could play together. If you are an experienced dog handler that enjoys a quiet environment and could fulfill a need to help a dog with limited options please consider Willow. She loves walks, cuddles, car rides and playing with other dogs. Willow spends her time between the kennel and her foster Mom in Gloucester. She has wonderful eye contact and seems to have lots to say when she looks at you. Willow is trying to find her place and wants nothing more than a human companion who will spend time with her showing her a safe, quiet new life in this world. She is waiting patiently for that special someone. For that she will give you undivided love, affection and tons of smiles

Note from Mary Lou, her Foster Mom:

This is a dog that needs a very special owner.  She is a fabulous dog. All the attributes you would hope to have in your animal companion. Loyal, fun-loving, mild temperament, loves dogs, smart as a whip, cute as a button, loves car rides, housetrained, crate trained, requires little exercise, affectionate…

So why does she need a Special owner?  She is afraid of new people. Once she warms up to them she is their friend for life. But she needs someone who will keep her safe and someone who enjoys a quiet lifestyle preferably with another dog and a fenced in yard.

PLEASE, Willow has been in shelters and rescues for nearly a year now. She so needs someplace to relax and decompress from the stress of it all.

Will you please post on your FB site, ask others to share it  and keep posting weekly?

We need a massive campaign going to get this sweet girl into the right home.

Thank you,

Mary Lou

Blackburn Open Studios, Sat & Sun

Blackburn Open Studios

We’re opening our studios to visitors this weekend from 12 to 6 on both Saturday and Sunday. The space is in the Blackburn Building on Main Street in Gloucester. There will be a total of 5 artists in the building opening their spaces, so lots to see — and if you are coming from out of town, bring your bathing suit and head to the beach after, water has been wonderfully warm lately.

Come through the parking lot to the entrance at the back of the building, and take the elevator up to the 3rd floor. There will be signs pointing the way.

I will have my vintage studio open, with lots of vintage clothes and accessories to browse.

After you stop by our studios hang around for the Gloucester Block party!

I hope you can make it!
