It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas! If you’re looking for holiday cheer, the 2025 Holiday Lights and Cocoa Drives map–celebrating homes spreading cheer with Christmas lights and holiday yard displays–is just starting to twinkle.
From rookie illuminations to mad merry marvels and every spirit of the season, look for more glistening additions in the days to come here on GMG and a printable map (2025 is not live, yet. Peruse past years here.) What creative magic have some favorites dreamed up for this year? Before December 1, I noticed angels were trending, so that’s an early “I spy” for 2025 drives. Maybe add one to your window 🙂
Shout out to Margaret Harvey and Central Grammar for a welcome request and deadline!
photo block: Here are a few of the decorated Gloucester houses twinkling everywhere you go. With every passing year, a faithful regular may dim, while a new home joins the enchantment. It never gets old. Thanks to all who share their festive gifts of light on winter nights.

Community members are invited and encouraged to attend the second Trusted Adult North Shore workshop happening this Wednesday, December 10th, from 6:00–7:30 PM at the Landmark Elementary & Middle School Cafeteria (167 Bridge Street, Manchester-by-the-Sea). You can join in person or via Zoom. Register here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSc-aiz5Ac_Sr_5yaRJ8JfHMPztciNpQnJpkobLakuqIbkJXSg/viewform?usp=header
This session is open to all trusted adults including teachers, coaches, afterschool staff, neighbors, bus drivers, youth leaders, and anyone who supports young people. We’ll spend the first half of the workshop engaging in discussion and shared learning, followed by a youth panel featuring voices from communities across the North Shore. They will share firsthand perspectives on the impact of trusted adults in their lives.
Our first workshop received excellent feedback, with participants reporting they felt more prepared and confident in talking with youth about their needs.
Please help us spread the word! Invite friends, family, and colleagues, and join us for an engaging and meaningful evening and an opportunity to add a few new tools to your toolbox.
Stephen LaPierre’s studio and gallery has a new location downtown!
Find Stephen LaPierre’s new works in his new digs, 11 Harbor Loop, tucked in between the Building Center and the Coast Guard station—befittingly viewable from the Fitz Henry Lane site & Al Duca bronze iconic vista, threshold-bookended between murals (Studio Fresh FHL homage and Jeff Weaver trompe l’oeil windows), and on the route to Maritime Gloucester and the Lobster Trap Tree at this time of year!

Susan Wadia-Ells shares the news from Stephen LaPierre:
“Stephen LaPierre…the Gloucester oil painter…is having the grand opening of his new 11 Harbor Loop, downtown Gloucester, Mass., Open Studio on Sunday December 14, 2025. Barbara Lynch, former celebrity chef, will be his guest artist at the opening, also showing her new works from 1-4pm.”

This page was organized to help support my mom, Julie, during this devastating time. As all of you know, Julie and Chuck are rarely seen apart. She continues to stand by his side while he is in the ICU and we’re hoping to lighten her burden a bit, while helping ensure she also takes care of herself. Having meals dropped off a couple times a week would would be a huge help (meal sign ups below), along with any gift cards for gas, food on the go, or other needs that arise while she is not working and traveling back and forth daily to the hospital. But most of all, we need prayers. Status Update: Chuck experienced a cardiac event on Sunday December 7th, while out to dinner with his wife Julie. CPR was performed right away on site, he was rushed to the hospital, and later transferred to the ICU at Lahey Medical Center in Burlington, MA. He was without oxygen for quite some time during the event and has continued to be unresponsive at this time. Doctors have stated his condition is very serious and at this point, we are taking it hour by hour, we are all staying hopeful and praying he will pull through.
There is still some time left to purchase raffle tickets to win one of three great prizes. All proceeds from this raffle will be donated to the Christopher Dailey Memorial Fund and the winning tickets will be drawn at the GHS home opener on Saturday, December 13th. Look below for prizes and Venmo information. Please note that in addition to the two prizes listed on the flyer below, a Secret Santa surprised us with prize #3! Bruins Tickets for the Bruins vs. Vegas Golden Knights. Thursday Jan 22 -7pm. Sec Loge6 Row5 Seat 17&18. A big Thank You (listed below) to all who donated to the fundraiser.
Tickets for the Opening Night game will include the 6:15 pregame ceremony for Chris Dailey Night where his number will be retired. Those tickets go on sale tonight at 5:00 on GoFan and the link is provided below. It is going to be a very special night, to honor an incredibly special player who is missed every single day by so many. Help honor Chris’ giving spirit by purchasing raffle tickets so that his Memorial Fund can continue to make a difference in his honor.

Timeline: Cape Ann Screening — The Flying Santa
Friday, December 19 | 3:00–4:00 PM
Community Room | Sawyer Free Library, 2 Dale Ave., Gloucester
The Sawyer Free Library is delighted to welcome Kory Curcuru of 1623 Studios for a special screening of Timeline: Cape Ann — The Flying Santa.
More than 90 years ago, a Maine pilot began a heartfelt tradition: air-dropping Christmas packages to lighthouse keepers and their families who guided him to safety. Over time, the route expanded to Cape Ann and eventually reached Coast Guard stations and lighthouses across the country. Remarkably, the Flying Santa tradition continues to this day.

This captivating film tells the story of one man’s generosity and the enduring spirit of community that helped shape Gloucester’s identity. A Q&A with Kory Curcuru will follow the screening.
This free public event is open to all. Registration is requested at sawyerfreelibrary.org.
