Sustainable agriculture* on Greater Cape Ann Conversation November 3rd!

Please join us on November 3rd to learn about sustainable agriculture* on Greater Cape Ann!

On Sunday, November 3 at 3 p.m. at the Annisquam Village Church,  the Interfaith Committee of the Cape Ann Climate Coalition will hold its 3rd and final event in our series focused on sustainable agriculture, healthy soil, carbon sequestration, eating healthy and buying local.

You will hear from a panel of three local farmers who are practicing sustainable agriculture on their farms. Alison DiFiore, Executive Director of Backyard Growers and a farmer, will moderate this session.

The IFC is receiving grant money from NOAA to put on these programs.

The poster for this event is attached. Please share widely!!*Sustainable agricultural practices are intended to protect the environment, expand the Earth’s natural resource base, and maintain and improve soil fertility. Based on a multi-pronged goal, sustainable agriculture seeks to: Increase profitable farm income and promote environmental stewardship.  Source:  USDA NIFA

TWO solo exhibitions at Jane Deering Gallery: Paul Cary Goldberg | Antony Ohman. Reception November 9

Upcoming November/December 2024 news from Jane Deering Gallery has all the details about two concurrent solo photography exhibits not to miss:

“Jane Deering Gallery presents Two Photographers | Two Solo Shows : Paul Cary Goldberg & Antony Ohman opening Saturday November 9th with a reception from 4-6pm and an Artist Talk on November 23rd from 3-5pm. Paul Cary Goldberg’s street images from the 1970’s alongside his intimate portraits of farmers, and Antony Ohman’s exploration of how series of images can relate to each other as narratives, define this stunning show. The subtle tonalities in black & white photography achieved by the photogravure process is a fascination for each artist. Goldberg and Ohman both maintain a studio on Cape Ann in Gloucester MA. The exhibition runs through December 8th. Gallery hours: Fri & Sat 1-5pm; Sun 1-4pm and by appointment at paul@paulcarygoldberg.com 978-821-9920 or ajohman@gmail.com 857-891-0548.”

James Tappan Puritan House

So much history to be found within the city of Gloucester. I looked up the National Register of Historic Places to see what I could find about this exact location (listed as the Puritan House) and found a map of designated areas in the city of Gloucester. You can see the map here:

https://www.nps.gov/maps/full.html?mapId=7ad17cc9-b808-4ff8-a2f9-a99909164466

More specifics about the James Tappan Puritan House can be found here as well:

It was the first brick building to be built in the city. It was built in 1810 for James Tappan, a schoolteacher from New Hampshire who once had Daniel Webster as a student.Tappan operated Tappan’s Hotel on the premises, and it served as a major social center for the community. Later owners also operated it as a hotel space, including one who gave it the name “Puritan House”. It now houses other businesses.

Zorvino Vineyard With Friends

FOBs Susan and Leo won a wine tasting and tour in a raffle and offered to allow us to join them. So off we went on a pretty fall day to Sandown NH to the Zorvino Vineyard. The ride was just a little over an hour and the we arrived to the beautiful grounds of the winery. Megan was our wine educator and she was very personable and knowledgeable. We tried four different wines and then were given a quick tour of the inside wine production facilities. We haven’t had a wine tour in quite a while and this was very enjoyable. I understand that Zorvinos hosts events such as weddings and that seems like a very nice venue. Oh, and there are alpacas with the cutest names.

Here’s GMG Jim assisting with the grape preparation. (Yes, Joey, I forgot to go landscape……again……) Thank you Susan and Leo (some of these photos are Susan’s). For additional photos and story details, please check out Pat D’ Photos and Adventures on Facebook.
