Transition — pat morss

Adjustments are underway as we progress through autumn.

This could be mid-winter with low sun, but it is actually unseasonally warm October.
Norwegian Breakaway could be in the Caribbean, but is still cruising Canada’s Maritimes.
There are only two seals at Brace Cove so far, a long way from the winter twenty-five.
Hank Heron is back on Niles Pond during his migration south.
Cold blooded Painted Turtles warm themselves in the sun whenever it shines.
“Hey down there, there’s still ground cover. Can you flush out a couple of mice for me?”
Two more coyotes have mange – not looking good for the pack’s winter.
Some fall events are one-off, like searching for last week’s meteor.
However, we’re fortunate to have protected land like Ravenswood for hiking year round.

Cape Ann Shakespeare Troupepresents “Twelfth Night”

The Cape Ann Shakespeare Troupe (CAST) opens its 2024-25 Season with Shakespeare’s lively comedy “Twelfth Night,” on November 8-10, and November 15-17, 2024, at the Gloucester Stage Theater, 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. (Fridays and Saturdays 7:30 p.m., Sunday matinees, 3 p.m.) Tickets, $28 side section seating and $35 for center section seats, may be purchased at the door and online at www.gloucesterstage.com.

In Shakespeare’s fantasy island world of Illyria, a lovesick Pirate Governor sends a young servant to woo Olivia, the proprietress of the local tavern. But, in true Shakespearean fashion, the servant is actually a young woman, Viola, who after finding herself shipwrecked alone on the island, has dressed as her twin brother for safety sake while seeking a position serving the Governor. This deception leads to a preposterous plot, mistaken identities, misunderstandings, deception, humor, misrule, and romance. Meanwhile, in the Tavern Courtyard, there are more romantic entanglements and hijinks as two aging Knights, a Minstrel and the Barmaid, sing, conspire, drink, cavort, and play cruel pranks for everyone’s amusement. Masquerading lovers result in misguided marriage proposals which only Olivia’s long lost twin can resolve.

Share the laughter and music as, tossed on a stormy sea, the characters navigate life and ambition in an all too familiar turbulent world. “Twelfth Night” will tickle you right from the start as the world and society are turned upside down in the name of love.

CAST’s fresh production of “Twelfth Night”, directed by Mark Efinger, features a variety of actors from professionals, to community players, to those making their stage debut including: Kavika Babson, Patrice Benjamin, Andrew Bove, Cole Brown, Allegra Dubus-Brandolini, Olivia Gale, Kristin Harris, Frances Hellums, Jena Jekums, Billy Jenkins, David Lee Vincent, Ashley Olsen, Brian Weed, Deirdre Weed, and Samson Willcox.  The Crew includes Mark Efinger, Director; Billy Lewand, Co-Director; Cindy Efinger, Stage Manager; Kevin Lee, Technical Director; Nick Neyeloff, Assistant Technical Director; and Eric Sayre, Tech Crew.

The Cape Ann Shakespeare Troupe, a non-profit community theatre group formed in 2008, is devoted to bringing the works of Shakespeare and other notable playwrights to Cape Ann audiences.

Hammond’s Original Horror Stories Come To Life In The Terror of Abbadia Mare – This Week!

 ~ Hammond Castle Museum ~

Tonight’s the Night! We are thrilled to kick off the opening of The Terror of Abbadia Mare at Hammond Castle Museum!

As you travel through the Castle’s darkened corridors and rooms, you’ll encounter some of the most peculiar guests ever assembled. Are they members of a secret society, social and Hollywood royalty, or leaders straddling the boundaries of science and the occult? These stories are based on Hammond’s original ghost stories. Hammond’s writing style, reminiscent of the 1920s Weird Tale and the 1950s Pulp Fiction offers a unique blend of supernatural intrigue and kitschy charm

Featuring an incredible cast:

  • Gloucester’s own James “Jimmy T.” Tarantino as the Sailor
  • Anthony Lentz as John Hays Hammond Jr.
  • Shari Chaplin as Mrs. Irene Hammond
  • Lauren Casey as the Reporter
  • Michael Yussef Greene as Hillman, Hammond’s trusted Butler
  • Alison Landoni as the Mason

Join us for performances on October 21, 22, 23, and 25! Tickets are still available, so be sure to reserve yours now for an unforgettable night of suspense and theatrical magic inside our historic castle. 🎟️🔮.

Roaring 1920s and similar attire are encouraged but not required.  Not intended for audiences under 13 years of age. Admission: $25

Hammond Castle Museum member discounts apply!  All proceeds from this program will support the restoration and preservation of the Museum.
