U.S. Dory Races

The International Dory Racing Committee will hold elimination races off the Gloucester Heritage Center dock Saturday June 15th at 8:30 AM.  All racing fans are encouraged to attend!!  Those dues paying members who plan to race must attend sign ups Friday evening  June 14th at the Dory Shop at 6 PM or email before 12 noon.  These races are strictly for 2 person teams in the following categories:  Junior (under 19), Women, Mixed Doubles, Seniors (Men Open) and Master’s (Men over 50).  Also, we will have two (exhibition) races in the following categories.  Women (Over 50) and Junior Girls (under 19).  The races will run from the Heritage Center Dock out towards green nun off Fort playground and back.  
Please share this with friends and family.  It will be a great day of racing, uniquely Gloucester, and fun for all!

Jon Sarkin is holding Maritime, an art show featuring ocean-themed works such as ships, seascapes, fish, and waves.

The opening will be held at Jon’s studio on June 1 at 7pm.

Robert Vicari Named City of Gloucester’s Building Commissioner

Mayor Greg Verga is pleased to announce the appointment of Robert Vicari  as the City’s new Building Commissioner.

Vicari brings over 30 years of experience in both the public and private sectors, encompassing building code enforcement, municipal permitting, and construction management. Since 2021, he has proudly served as one of Gloucester’s Local Building Inspectors, as well as the Sealer of Weights and Measures and the Zoning Enforcement Officer.

A graduate of Gloucester High School, Vicari attended Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management. He holds numerous professional licenses, including a Construction Supervisor License and Building Official Certification.

As a lifelong Gloucester resident, Vicari is motivated to help the City grow and continue making it a beautiful place to live and visit.

“Our Building Commissioner plays a critical role in ensuring the integrity, safety, and procedure of a wide array of building projects,” Mayor Verga said. “Rob’s extensive professional experience, both with the City and in the private sector, coupled with his pride in his community, make him the perfect choice for this role. We look forward to Rob stepping into this position and working with him.”

Vicari took over the role on April 22, 2024. 

Endicott College Baseball is #1 In The Country and just came back to win a stunner in extra innings!

A two-run home run by Danny MacDougall (Taunton, Mass.) in the top of the tenth inning sent the No. 1 ranked Endicott College baseball team over No. 6/7 Johns Hopkins University, 7-5, on Friday afternoon in the opening game of a best-of-three NCAA Super Regional series at North Field.

LP (1-2):Grant Meert (Ballwin, Mo.) – 0.1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 2 ER

With Endicott playing as the visiting team in game one due to NCAA Super Regional rules, Dylan Pacheco (Dartmouth, Mass.) led off the top of the tenth with a single to right. He then moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on ground out by Nicolas Notarangelo (Taunton, Mass.) before MacDougall came to the plate and launched his seventh home run of the season over the fence in left giving the Gulls a 7-5 edge.
