ATTENTION NEW ENGLAND ARTISTS: CALL FOR ART!

There are two weeks left to apply for North Shore Arts Association’s 3rd annual regional juried show Exhibit New England 2024! The show will run from June 29 – July 27, 2024, with over $7,000 in Awards. This OPEN CALL applies to all artists in the New England area. The DEADLINE to apply is May 25 by 11:59 PM. On May 25, the Magnolia Library & Community Center is hosting a ‘Porch Fest’ in celebration of 525 Day.

What’s a Porch Fest??  It’s a popular event where different musical groups play on porches as people stroll around listening to music. It’s the perfect event for sharing our beautiful oceanside neighborhood. We’ll have about a dozen porches all playing different types of music from 4 – 6pm on Saturday, May 25. In addition, there will be live music at the Magnolia Fire Station from 6-8pm. You can bring a beach chair or blanket, order some pizza or take-out from Grillfriends or 525 and enjoy the beach view from the park.  

A map  of participating porches is available at www.magnolialibrary.com or from the Magnolia Library at One Lexington Ave.  Our musicians are donating their time and talent. The maps will include virtual tip jars so you can show your appreciation.

You may be wondering what’s 525 Day?  525 is the original telephone exchange for Magnolia, so we use May 25 each year to celebrate all things Magnolia – our Library, our restaurants and retailers, and our beautiful seaside location. Please join this musical celebration!

Northern Lights

Northern Lights. On Friday night I was bartending and was afraid that I would miss the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. At almost 2:00 am I finally drove towards Plum Cove Beach (nothing), then Lanes Cove (nothing), then the Lobster Pool (a little action), past Halibut Point (CROWDED), to Granite Pier (some decent photos), to Bearskin Neck (better), then to T Wharf (bingo). I’ve added a few of my favorite photos.

Wednesday : The Barrett Anderson Band in “The Corner” at the front of the restaurant from 7pm-10:30pm
Thursday : The Nuggets VIP Experience with Lenny Kaye – open rehearsal, Q&A with Lenny Kay moderated by WBUR’s Jim Sullivan, and MORE!
Friday : The Nuggets Celebration featuring Lenny Kaye & Friends – Peter Buck (REM), David Robinson & Greg Hawkins (The Cars), Hugo Burnham (Gang of Four), Willie “Loco” Alexander (Velvet Underground), Tony Goddess (Papas Fritas) and MANY MORE. Doors at 7pm. Show at 8pm. (GA Standing only – No Seating Available) 
Saturday Brunch : The Clements Brothers in “The Corner” at the front of the restaurant. Brunch served 10am – 2:30pm, music from 11am – 2pm. 
Saturday : Spring Fling Dance Party with DJ Souza – 8:30pm – 11:30pm – $10 Cover at the door. 
Sunday : Session Americana with Eleanor Buckland & Special Guest Opener, Ali McGuirk. Doors at 7pm. Show at 8pm. (Some seating available).
