Run, walk, or stroll from Stage Fort Park to Hammond Castle and back to Stage Fort Park for a 5K loop. Enjoy the beautiful Cape Ann waterfront and fresh ocean air while raising money for the Alzheimer’s Association.

We took a ride up 133 and 1A toward Parker River National Wildlife Refuge a few days ago and had quite a few bird sightings along the way. Each sighting on its own would have made for a good day, but to find so many special sights was a big treat. It gave me real hope for spring. We saw “our”eagle in West Gloucester, a screech owl along the route, a pair of Great Blue Herons at Parker River, as well as glossy ibis and egrets in Rowley.

When we stopped in Rowley for the large gathering of egrets and glossy ibis, a very nice man called me over when he saw my camera to point out the yellowish bird amongst the egrets far out from the roadway. He told me this was a cattle egret, my first sighting! Although the photos are pretty cropped, you can clearly see the yellowish coloring of this single bird. Thank you sir! What a treat. One trip offered up so many beautiful sights. I love our Cape Ann and area!

MA Indies launch the North of Boston Book Trail

GLOUCESTER, MA — The Bookstore of Gloucester & Dogtown Book Shop are happy to announce their participation in the new North of Boston Book Trail, launching just in time for Independent Bookstore Day. On Saturday April 27th, independent bookstores across the country – including all 16 stores on the North of Boston Book Trail – will be celebrating the 11th anniversary of Independent Bookstores Day!

The North of Boston Book Trail is a group of 16 independently owned bookstores in the region North of Boston working together to bring more book lovers – both locals and tourists – into all of their shops. The Trail showcases the unique character and charm of each bookstore, while also highlighting the diverse literary community in the area. By working together, these indie bookstores hope to create a greater sense of community and to foster a love of reading and books across the state. “Independent bookstores work every day to build community around the written word,” said Beth Ineson, Executive Director of the New England Independent Booksellers Association. “Independent Bookstore Day is a chance to celebrate and support their efforts, because we can all agree that bookstores make every neighborhood a more vibrant place.” 

Independent Bookstore Day (Indie Bookstore Day) was established in 2013 to promote, celebrate, and highlight the value of the Independent bookstore community. The day has been observed on the last Saturday of April every year since 2013. This year there are over 900 stores participating across the country. Independent Bookstore Day is organized by the American Booksellers Association, a national not-for-profit trade organization, that works with booksellers and industry partners to ensure the success and profitability of independently owned book retailers, and to assist in expanding the community of the book. 

Dogtown Book Shop will be open 10am-6pm on Saturday and Sunday with their signature carts of $1 and free books outside (weather permitting) and piles of bookish treasure within. The Bookstore of Gloucester will be open 10am-6pm on Saturdayand 10am-5pm 0n Sunday and will have sweet treats and another round of ‘Blind Date Books’ for the occasion. 

The North Shore Conference for Women is happening Thursday, May 23 from 8 AM to 5 PM. There are five topic tracks: personal prosperity, professional success, entrepreneurship/leadership, health and well-being and family. Are you looking for inspiration, motivation and connection with other relatable women in your community? For the first time, this affordable event will give women the opportunity to network, share and learn from one another to keep moving along their chosen path.  This year‘s conference features Emmy award-winning lifestyle host and TV personality, Ana Rossi, as MC, with transformational life go  coach and best selling author, Jen Wren Tolo and psychologist, writer, TEDx, speaker, and podcast host, Dr. Jill Stoddard as keynotes. GLOUCESTER, Mass. – To celebrate the beginning of spring, Cape Ann Museum is bringing back its popular Cape Ann Blossoms event on Saturday, May 4 and Sunday, May 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Floral designers from the North Shore will bring art to life though eye-catching arrangements inspired by artworks around the Museum.

 

Cape Ann Blossoms will open with a ticketed preview party on Friday, May 3 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The party will include light fare, festive drinks, and a chance to have the first look at the inspired floral compositions located throughout Museum galleries. OUR MISSION: To promote early detection of brain aneurysms by providing knowledge and raising awareness of the signs, symptoms and risk factors. Work with the medical communities to provide support networks for patients and families, as well as to further research that will improve patient outcomes and save lives.

Through your support, the Brain Aneurysm Foundation will be able to continue to provide support and educational materials and information to brain aneurysm patients, their families, and the medical community and to promote critical awareness of brain aneurysms which will lead to earlier detection. The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is funding essential research that will promote a better understanding of why this condition happens and identify those at risk before an aneurysm rupture occurs.
