Former Neighbors — pat morss

Things are slow as we wait for the next generation of wildlife to appear. So, here is Part 1 of some of our neighbors who visited us, before I began posting on Good Morning Gloucester 5 years ago.

1973: Bruce Goose didn’t go south as expected – stayed until late winter.
1975: Indoors, Brutus and Mai-Tai were the best of friends. (Mai-Tai could bite)
1989: Racoons visited our 2nd floor deck back when we fed pets outdoors.
1990: Swan families were in abundance on Niles Pond.
1995: Pheasants would strut across our property. No more.
1996: Sunrise over Niles Pond, headed to the train.
1999: First Great Blue Heron we were aware of. Maybe Hank Heron’s grandfather.
2001: This Snowy Owl lived in transit in the Audubon sanctuary for a few weeks.
2004: A Red-tailed Hawk perusing the sanctuary from its perch outside our window.
2009: Word spread fast – Ivory Gull at Eastern Point Breakwater (flying in, dead center).
2009: Closeup courtesy of Derek, our son-in-law, also attracted from out of state.
2010: Gordo Baird’s barnyard, documented for years in the Gloucester Daily Times.

Good Harbor Beach Inn demo and rebuild underway #GloucesterMA

March 2024. Gloucester, Mass.

Good Harbor Beach Inn is undergoing a big repair, reno and rebuild. Its future footprint and layout with the signature terraced design will be the same, as you can see in how it’s been framed up as of March 2024. The demo of the main building is still to come and will be raised 18 inches per the newest FEMA flood map guidelines. A completion date and exterior design details are not ready for release. Although reservations won’t be available in the summer of 2024, there’s hope for the fall 2024. For sure they’ll be booking summer 2025.

Happy Birthday, Fred Shrigley!

Happiest of birthdays to this guy! The fearless leader and ringmaster of The Rhumb Line family! Over many, many years he has created a live music venue/restaurant/bar that SO many have called “home.” He has brought people together and in doing so has created so many beautiful friendships, memories, and reasons for celebration. He has given so many a stage to perform on and a barstool to sit on when they needed it most. What would we do without the Rhumb Line? What would we do without Fred Shrigley? Feel free to share your favorite Rhumb Line story as a gift to Fred….. and come say hello tonight for Bluegrass night at the bar!

I Spy a Bride

I Spy a Bride. Congratulations to newlywed couple. I didn’t want to be too creepy but was happy to snap a quick photo from afar of the bride enjoying her special day at Tonno.

View From Around Middle Street

Sometimes I take a walk around the block when I am at the store and the library construction project along with the adjacent senior housing project at the former YMCA is fascinating. Here is the progress from a recent walk.
