What were the ages of the children who came over to play and how long did they stay? (Was it double the babysitting duties or did the extra children make the job easier by playing happily together?) If easier, an extra $10/hr for the time they were there. If feeding, extra supervision and interaction, disciplining, and/or putting to bed were involved, at least an extra $15/ hr for the time they were there. Whatever is charged this time, the sitter needs to have a talk with the parents to put a clear policy in place regarding extra children (price and amount of notice required) and the expected end time for the babysitting session, perhaps with a surcharge for the time between expected and actual arrival home, and absolutely with a phone call/text and a solid reason for running late. Because it’s sometimes hard for teenagers (and everybody else!) to have money conversations, it might be a good idea to write the terms down and send or give it in paper form to all the sitter’s clients.

I think she should get more money per hour for the extra kids, and maybe charge extra for the hours after midnight. These people took advantage of her!

If she had to do more than put the kids to bed and sit while they slept, I would charge them double. She should also make it clear that she charges + $10 after a certain hour. That young lady should have walked away with $100. No question!

$15 an hour for 2 kids so $30 for 4 kids per hour.

30 an hour, time and a half after midnight and a call to you letting you know that she will be brought home safely because of the late hour.
