WPA Mural At The Gloucester Visitors Welcoming Center At Stage Fort Park

Currently this WPA mural is hung in the Gloucester Visitors Welcoming Center.   NOAA is interested in it and it is currently hung improperly for such a valuable piece.  There is simple window framing holding it up and it is tearing along seams where nails are holding up the heavy canvas.  They couldn’t figure out who the artist was.  I wonder if Susan Erony who did the lecture series on the WPA Murals around Gloucester knows. Video at 2PM.

  1. The Mural really should be in a more protected public building such as a School, Museum, Library, Post Office, Town Hall etc. These Murals are a priceless part of truly “Americana Art” – the Artist WK Gilbert of Marblehead, restored two large Murals that were removed from the walls of his Alma Mater, Marblehead High School, stored for 2 years, restored and installed in the newly renovated High School, now called Marblehead Veterans Middle School – Obama has created a funding program for all WPA Art titled “SAVE AMERICA’S TREASURES” – There is Grant money available to restore these treasures – check with your Local, State and Fed Reps and also on the NEA website – Marblehead MVMS has twor more Murals that need restoration and will be submitting Grant applications for the funding – I highly recommend doing the same for this beautiful Mural – Linda Jones –
