Mini Magic Musical Week Long Intensive :
101 Dalmatians
4-9 year olds.
M-F: 9-10 am
An opportunity to perform in a mini stage production of the classic Disney musical 101 Dalmatians as well as develop basic stage presence, confidence, and theatre skills in this week-long intensive . Students will rehearse songs, dances, and short scenes that culminate in a special showcase performance for friends and family at the end of the week.
Playmaking 101
8-11 year olds
M-F: 10:30-12:30
This week-long intensive offers young actors the opportunity to work as an ensemble to turn a children’s story or fairytale into a play. Through creative exploration, brainstorming, improvising, scripting, and rehearsing, the ensemble will turn the story into a play. We will perform our new work for friends and family on the final day of class. Playmaking can help young actors develop important life skills like active listening, cooperation, eye contact, and positive self-expression as well as learn about storytelling, acting and creating a play.
Musical Theatre 101
9-17 yr olds
M-F: 1pm -3pm
Looking to learn more about Musical Theatre performance techniques? Join us for Musical Theatre 101! Students will learn more about the history of classical and contemporary Musical Theatre, choosing songs and monologues for auditions and what you need to have ready in your Actor’s ToolBox. And you will work on scenes from the soon to be announced Summer Performance Camp Production! The intensive will end with a showcase performance of scenes and songs for family and friends.

September Tuesdays | Intensive Scene Study for ages 9-16
Do you have a Pre teen or Teen interested in developing their skills as an actor? Does your actor have an audition coming up? Scene Study & Acting Techniques, intensive workshops for young actors age 9-16 taught by professional actress & Gloucester native Heidi Dallin, at the Cape Ann YMCA. Students will explore both classical and contemporary theatrical scenes and monologues to learn more about given circumstances, script analysis, character development and vocal interpretation as well as practice listening and responding in character, and learning new acting techniques. Scene Study teaches young actors how to craft the arc of the scene, and it gives them the opportunity to practice creating different characters. Scene Study and Acting Techniques at the Cape Ann Y is designed to provide young people an outlet to discover their creative potential through building self confidence, and developing communication and teamwork skills to use in their daily life as well as introducing them to the skills necessary for professional theatre. The Power of Improvisation, an all ages class for ages 7-16 where young actors can learn the basics of improv through fun and engaging games, with an emphasis on team building, listening & thinking on your feet taught by professional actress & Gloucester native, Heidi Dallin, at the Cape Ann YMCA. Through improv, young actors learn every day tools for life: risk-taking, quick thinking, support, trust, confidence, teamwork, and acceptance. Actors will learn and perfect the 4 C’s of improv: creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and communication Improv training helps young actors to learn how to think faster, to be a confident public speaker, to think more creatively, to perform better in auditions, and most importantly to have FUN on stage! Do you have a young actor at home? Are you a young actor looking to hone your skills as an artist? Are you interested to learn about being on the stage? Explore Acting!, an introduction to the basics of professional acting for ages 5 to 8 years old taught by professional actress & Gloucester native Heidi Dallin, at the Cape Ann YMCA. The intensive class is a great way for young actors of all levels of experience to develop their skills on stage and build their confidence. The class will introduce young actors to basic theatre concepts such as ensemble, pantomime and creating bold memorable characters. Young actors will develop stage presence, listening skills, sensory awareness, and focus through theatre games, public speaking, and storytelling and learn about acting techniques and making choices onstage. Explore Acting! at the Cape Ann Y is designed to provide young people an outlet to discover their creative potential through building self confidence, and developing communication and teamwork skills to use in their daily life as well as introducing them to the skills necessary for professional theatre. Classes are Mondays: from 4pm to 6pm at the Cape Ann YMCA.

We hope you can join us in Gloucester this summer for a great performance opportunity. We are launching The Cape Ann Y’s first ever all ages 4 week Summer Performance Camp. All participants(age 5-17) will be in a production of The Wizard of Oz at the CAY. There will be two public performances at the end of the final week.(July 21 and July 22 @ 4pm)
The camp will be led by a professional adult production team and participants will learn about all aspects of professional theatre and producing a show!

The 7 week session culminates in a workshop performance of scenes from Holiday Delights for family and friends at Ames Hall in Salem. Set in Gloucester, Holiday Delights is a festive evening of stories, music and movement recounting the special traditions that other cultures and families experience as seen through a young child’s magical journey on Christmas Eve to discover what is really important during the holiday season.

Theatre Kids Save the dates –
For the first week only: 5-9 year olds will meet Friday, October 29 from 4-6 pm for a skills workshop and intro to the play
10-18 year olds will meet Saturday, October 30 from 10 am to 12 pm for a skills workshop and intro to the play.
Please note the workshop meets Fridays, 4pm-6 pm and Saturdays 10am -12pm. However, student actor schedules will vary according to their roles and the scenes being rehearsed. All participants must wear sneakers to each session.
The workshop performance of Holiday Delights will take place at 2 pm on Sunday, December 12 at Ames Hall in Salem.
