I have a love hate relationship with this tree.  when it blooms it is beautiful but every year it gets smoked by these small green inchworm looking things first and then these shiny beetles and looks nice for roughly 3 weeks out of the year.

I’ve chronicled the life of this Kwanzan Cherry tree for the past 4 years here

here are some of the blooms from this year-

Kwanzan Cherry Buds Popping In The Yard

Long time GMG readers know about our Kwanzan Cherry tree that we nearly gave up on last year after  years of blah results.  The thing about the Kwanzan cherry tree that I love is the clusters of 3-5 buds that pop out of every shoot.  It makes for a spectacular display when in bloom.

You can read this post from May 8th last year when they popped.

Some of the long time GMG readers will recall my fasination with spring, and the development of our Kwanzan Cherry tree and also The Rosa grows along the shore.  This is the first signs of life with the buds starting to form on the Kwanzan Cherry.

Kwanzan Cherry Finally Blossoms

I was about ready to give up on our Kwanzan Cherry Tree that we bought at Lowe’s four years ago.  Until this year it’s growth and flowering has been less than spectacular.  it was the Kwanzan Cherry equilvilent of a Charlie Brown Christmas Tree.

Well, just last week we were contemplating digging it up and replanting it off in a back corner of the yard and replacing it with something more mature.  When I got home from work yesterday something happened overnight because a huge number of buds popped and are in the process of opening up.  The flowers are spectacular and I’m so glad we didn’t dig her up.  It looks like she finally took hold and is growing with new shoots and a ton of new buds that are ready to pop.
