GHS Theatre Program Spring Musical Once Upon a Mattress June 3 & 4

Hi Joe,
The GHS Theatre Program will stage its spring musical Once Upon a Mattress June 3 & 4 at 7:00 pm and June 5 at 2:00 pm.
I think you and your readers will agree that the costumes (by Linda Stockman) and set (by Dave Bowling) really show off this terrific cast.  55 GHS dedicated and talented students, including 17 graduating seniors, are involved in the production.
I hope the community will come out next weekend and see them live.  It will be fun!
Thanks,
Beth

From Ruth Pino-

The Gloucester High School Drama Program presents “The Music Man” tonight,
Saturday and Sunday.
I have been attending the Spring Musical for years and I am always astounded
by the talent of these young people.  The price for adults is only $7 and kids $5  – can’t beat
that for a great night of entertainment.

Also, they had to cancel the lunch on Sunday due to lack of reservationsHope to see you there.

GHS Theatre Program Presents Well-Loved Classic, The Music Man

Sunday luncheon adds new twist.

Gloucester – May 17, 2010 – The Gloucester High School Theatre Program will present The Music Man, June 4 & 5 at 7:00 p.m. and June 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. This classic American musical (book and music by Meredith Willson) features small town charm, tunes you can hum (including “Seventy Six Trombones” and “(Ya Got) Trouble”) and a con man reformed by the power of love – a real crowd pleaser.

40 students are involved in the production, with 30 onstage performers and 10 making up the backstage and technical crews. The production features a set designed and painted by seniors Eric Brown and Hayden Wilson and choreography by sophomore Katy Geraghty. A live orchestra consisting of both adults and student musicians will accompany the players.

Tickets for the performances are $7.00 ($5.00 for students). For more information please contact ghstheatreprogram@gmail.com.

New Lunch & Show Combination

In what they hope will become a new tradition, the GHS Theatre Program is partnering with Chef Reardon and his GHS Culinary Arts students to offer a buffet luncheon prior to Sunday’s matinee performance. The menu consists of baked stuffed chicken breast, rice pilaf, vegetable lasagna, salad, lemonade, ice tea, and cookies for dessert.

Reservations for the Lunch & Show combination are required by June 1st. Please contact Sue Kendall at tzscken@comcast.net or 978-290-9004. The cost is $20 payable at the door. The doors will open at noon, with lunch service beginning at 12:15.

GHS Theatre performance tomorrow evening

The Gloucester High School Theater Program will perform “The Scheme of the Driftless Shifter” this Thursday evening at 7 p.m. in the GHS auditorium. The play, a 40-minute one-act comedy, is Gloucester’s entry in the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Festival statewide theatre competition.

GHS has invited their peers from North Shore Technical High School to join them for this special performance. They too will also present their competition piece, “Grimm’s Fairy Tales.”

The shows begin at 7 p.m. Thursday, February 25. Admission is $5, payable at the door. GHS and the community can be very proud of these students. Please come out and support them.

GHS Theatre Program Stages Local Performance of Statewide Competition Piece

From Good Egg Beth Morris-

GHS Theatre Program Stages Local Performance of Statewide Competition Piece
Students share the stage with their peers from North Shore Tech.

Gloucester — February 10, 2010 – The GHS Theatre Program will perform The Scheme of the Driftless Shifter, on Thursday, February 25th at 7:00 pm in the GHS auditorium.  The play, a 40-minute one-act comedy, is Gloucester’s entry in the Massachusetts High School Drama Guild Festival competition. Students from North Shore Technical High School will also perform their competition piece, Grimm’s Fairy Tales, an original adaptation by Robert Parsons.

The Massachusetts High School Drama Festival annually draws an average of 120 schools from around the state.  Through participation in the Festival, students with interests in acting, directing, and technical theatre gain valuable performance and production experience.  Schools compete at preliminary, semi-final and state levels with two schools chosen at the state level to represent Massachusetts in the New England Drama Festival.  At each level, students are recognized for excellence.  A terrific learning experience, the Festival is also great fun.

For a number of years Gloucester High School and North Shore Technical High School have performed in the same preliminary round of the competition. This year, however, they will not. While both will perform on Saturday, February 27th, GHS will take the stage at 9:00 a.m. at Ipswich High School, NSTHS at 2:00 p.m. in Newburyport.

There are many friendships between the two programs.  GHS students didn’t want to give up the tradition of sharing the “Fest” experience with NSTHS and therefore invited their peers to join in the local performance.  Having no home stage facility on which to perform, NSTHS is particularly pleased to have this opportunity.

28 GHS students and 33 NSTHS students (several from Cape Ann) will take part in this special performance. Tickets for February 25th are $5.00 and may be purchased at the door.  For more information please contact ghstheatreprogram@gmail.com
