Saturday in Rockport: Food AND Music!

On October 10th, Rockport hosts the final regular season Rockport Farmers Market (before next week’s Harvestfest!) and a great night of music at the Old Sloop Coffeehouse. In between the farmers’ market and the Coffeehouse you can enjoy shopping and dining in downtown Rockport!

imgresSaturday morning from 9am to 1pm: Rockport Farmers Market vendors feature a bounty of fresh produced, jellies, jams, cold brew coffee, pastries (including a pumpkin s’mores cupcake!)

Saturday night at 7:30 brings David Roth to the Old Sloop Coffeehouse! Buy tickets online or at the door. Connor Garvey opens. More info on both performers, below.

A Coffeehouse in Rockport with an Awesome Band!

Yes, this band is indeed awesome. Not that I’m biased or anything. Of course the fact that the band is made up of my brother, niece and two nephews doesn’t influence my love for their music. Not at all, I swear (well…maybe just a bit). But it is true that I really think that anyone who digs roots music will find Daniel Dye & the Miller Road Band’s live show to be just as awesome as I do. They are playing this Thursday, March 13th at the Rockport Community House, with proceeds to benefit the work of Rockport Festivals, the group that puts together the Rockport Farmers Market, HarvestFest and Motif No.1 Day in downtown Rockport.

The Coffeehouse will feature the delicious coffee of Brothers’ Brew and give community members a chance to connect with the folks of Rockport Festivals. Opportunities to sign up to volunteer with the festivals and Farmers Market will be on hand, and we look forward to meeting up with our friends and neighbors and kicking off the spring after a long, cold, snowy winter.

Daniel Dye & the Miller Road Band are making a stop in Rockport on their Northeast mini-tour in support of their new album and feature a mix of original tunes in the style of indie-folk, Americana and roots music, playing everything from the fiddle, cello, viola, harmonica, mandolin, guitar, banjo to the melodica.

A Little Philosophy With Your Adolescence?

Or the title could be “A Little Philosophy With Your Adolescents?” because this post is directed at both students and their parents. Paul Kelly, a local teacher (full disclosure: his other full-time job is being my husband), offers coffeehouse courses (a combination of discussion and workshops) in Philosophy for high school students through his company, Philosophy 4. The new Spring Sessions start next week, with a session taking place right here in Gloucester. Paul has found through the last several years of teaching that high school students are eager to address the always-relevant questions philosophy takes on, but that they often don’t have a venue for such a discussion, which is where Philosophy 4 comes in. The courses are both casual and engaging, and students have a really good time together discussing western philosophy. And if you’re on twitter or facebook, check out Philosophy 4 on both; Paul is new to networking using social media and looks forward to connecting with the GMG community!
