TWO solo exhibitions at Jane Deering Gallery: Paul Cary Goldberg | Antony Ohman. Reception November 9

Upcoming November/December 2024 news from Jane Deering Gallery has all the details about two concurrent solo photography exhibits not to miss:

“Jane Deering Gallery presents Two Photographers | Two Solo Shows : Paul Cary Goldberg & Antony Ohman opening Saturday November 9th with a reception from 4-6pm and an Artist Talk on November 23rd from 3-5pm. Paul Cary Goldberg’s street images from the 1970’s alongside his intimate portraits of farmers, and Antony Ohman’s exploration of how series of images can relate to each other as narratives, define this stunning show. The subtle tonalities in black & white photography achieved by the photogravure process is a fascination for each artist. Goldberg and Ohman both maintain a studio on Cape Ann in Gloucester MA. The exhibition runs through December 8th. Gallery hours: Fri & Sat 1-5pm; Sun 1-4pm and by appointment at paul@paulcarygoldberg.com 978-821-9920 or ajohman@gmail.com 857-891-0548.”

The Experimental Art Group Hosts Robin Colodzin

Artist Donna Caselden shares a release for an upcoming artist talk special event:

Please join us as we listen to artist Robin Colodzin. This exciting talk is free and open to the public!  All are welcome!

The New England Experimental Art Group presents Robin Colodzin

About the Artist

Robin Colodzin’s work is inspired by the ocean, poetry, philosophy, and feminism. She is an artist, a software engineer, a swimmer, and an avid reader.

I find the practices that get me most fully embodied and expressive sometimes conflict with those that would allow me to shape a painting into something that would say something to others. This talk will explore those tensions.

Robin Colodzin

Her latest solo show (fall 2023) entitled ‘Embodied’ was a month-long exhibit at The Copley Society for Art in Boston. She has recently published a monograph of the same title, including artwork and writing. www.colodzin.com

Jason Burroughs closing talk Thursday May 30th 5pm Goetemann Artist Residency #GloucesterMA

Throughout this Goetemann Artist Residency, Jason Burroughs carved out painting times while working at his full time job which goes with the territory of being an emerging fine artist. So what was different with this special honor on Rocky Neck? To begin with, he timed a full week off from work to coincide with the Residency, to devote his time exclusively to art. Burroughs doesn’t have an artist studio so it has been a luxury to have ample room and walls to surround himself with new works in process and recent series near by, and to spread out books and materials. He set himself a tall task of completing at least 15 new plein air works, all oils rendered in the field. He had new tubes of paint to work with thanks to a recognition award from the Cape Ann Plein Air quick draw. Paint is expensive and Gruppe’s quip about paint like you are a millionaire went through his mind as he struggled to capture what he saw and sought to express. A few times he painted side by side more seasoned artists that have become friends and mentors, which he enjoys. Mostly he adjusted to painting with oil, outside on the waterfront, throwing paint down and “putting in the work spending time looking, truly looking.” Burroughs wishes he had his own studio right here on Rocky Neck. The Goetemann Artist Residency was a dream come true this month. Come hear about all he’s done.

Burroughs is looking forward to the next Goetemann talk with Marilu Swett ; Swett was professor for his senior sculpture work at Montserrat College of Art.

Gordon Goetemann Artist Talk

Gordon Goetemann Artist Talk
Sunday, October 19, 7:00 PM
Free to the public
The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester. MA

The Rocky Neck Art Colony hosts an evening with Gordon Goetemann, artist and long time Rocky Neck resident, at the Cultural Center on Wonson St, Sunday, October 19, at 7:00 PM.

Many people here in Gloucester and on the East coast are familiar with the work Gordon Goetemann has produced and exhibited locally but very few have any knowledge of the Minnesota paintings executed over a span of forty years. Many of these works will be shown and discussed at this special talk on the heels of his recent exhibition at the Cultural Center. Taken together as a body of work, Goetemann talks about the role nature has played in the formation of his values and the content of his art as well as some innate characteristics of his work such as, a micro/macro sense of scale and the dichotomy of an illusory space and the facts of a flat picture plane.

Goetemann constantly affirms that he is a landscape painter, and more specifically, that he is a NORTHERN landscape painter. He talks about how his northern-European, Germanic heritage has informed his temperament, feelings and modes of expression. As he often says,” As an artist I have led two lives and worn many hats”.

This event is free to the public; donations to support the work of the art colony are always gratefully received.
