Please help us celebrate GMGI’s Inaugural Byrnes Lecture, in memory of longtime GMGI and community supporter John Byrnes.
The oceans are home to an amazing diversity of life that sustains this planet, shapes climate and weather, and provides food and life-saving discoveries. But our oceans are under increasing threat from the impacts of pollution, habitat loss, overharvesting, and climate change.
Join us on Thursday, May 9th at 6pm at Gloucester Stage for an evening featuring Donald G. Comb Science Director Dr. Andrea Bodnar on how GMGI’s work is vital to preserving biodiversity, promoting healthy oceans, and enabling endless discoveries that impact humankind.

I’ll be at the shop today at 11 if you’d like to come pick up in person!
Jim was craving some Italian Fish Stew and so off we went to get the one he likes the best: Blue Marlin Grille on Eastern Ave in Essex. It was lunchtime but our meal choices were more than enough for an additional meal. We saw friends (hi Marcy) and were served by friendly staff (thanks Morgan). I got the meatballs, which could have served to fill in for the moon during the eclipse (they are large enough) and Jim got fried clams along with the Italian Fish Stew. PS They are open on Monday, so win-win!

🚮 We’re cleaning up the head of the harbor, state fish pier and cripple cove area!
📍Meet up with us at the Gloucester Studio at 9am where we will provide all volunteers with trash bags & disposal gloves! 47R Parker St, Gloucester, MA 01930
♻️ We encourage you to bring your own reusable gloves if you have them!

Catching Some Rays…

Signs of spring are arriving. The weather looks great. No Rain, looking forward to seeing all. Thank you

Police Chief Edward Conley reports that paving projects will lead to road closures and detours and affect parking next week.
From Monday, April 29, to Friday, May 3, work crews will be grinding and paving East Main Street between Highland Street and Hammond Street.
As a result, inbound traffic will be detoured through Mount Pleasant Avenue, to Hammond Street, and then back to East Main Street.
Additionally, from Wednesday, May 1, to Friday, May 3, Western Avenue between Centennial Avenue and Middle Street will be ground and paved on the side toward the water. On Western Avenue, no parking signs will be in place on the westbound side of the avenue, and the double lane will be used for two-way traffic.
Police will be at both sites to help direct traffic, but motorists in the area are advised to expect delays and to seek alternate routes if possible.
