It’s Scallop Season — pat morss

The short scallop season started April 1st. I watched some of the action at Cape Ann Lobstermen in East Gloucester, from Joey’s pier.

‘Ryleefinn’ backing out after landing their catch; two other boats waiting.
‘Whitney & Ashley’ was next up. Most of the boats are down from Maine.
Docking at Cape Ann Lobstermen.
Recording the weight of each bag of scallops, shelled on the way in.
Turnaround time was only about 5 minutes. ‘Outnumbered’ came in next.
Quickly sidling up to the pier.
Loading the scallops into a bucket, dropped down by the crane.
Weigh-in. The captain climbs the ladder to take a receipt for payment.
Loading the bags into tubs with ice to go inside for processing.
‘Outnumbered’ heading right back out.
Continuous comings and goings past the whistle buoy off Eastern Point light.
There will be a lot of lights on the horizon tonight.
Simply prepared by Anne-Lise for dinner, and couldn’t be fresher.

An evening walk around Shore Road

The sun was finally out on Tuesday evening.  Took a walk with the Sunset Club to enjoy another different sunset.  It was nice not to be wet and cold.  The sunset was a little foggy but made for a pretty sunset.

I’ve been enjoying your content and local information since moving to Gloucester. My wife and I moved here 3 years ago from Colorado  but she’s actually a north shore gal. Anyway I’m writing to share my YouTube channel either you. It’s mostly crane related but I have quite a few videos with Gloucester themes. Please take a look and consider sharing it with your connections

Greenbelt to Host Free Guided Walks in DeNormandie Woods

Events to take place April 12, May 21, and June 7

This spring, Greenbelt will host a series of free guided walks in the DeNormandie Woods Conservation Area, an environmentally rich 330-acre property that spans Gloucester and Manchester. The walks will take place on April 12, May 21, and June 7. Space is limited, pre-registration required.

In January, Greenbelt successfully completed its campaign to acquire and protect this valuable acreage, ensuring the land’s long-term preservation. This landmark acquisition safeguards vital natural habitats, an established trail network, and critical watershed lands, guaranteeing they remain protected from development for generations to come.

Part of a vast 1,400-acre expanse of protected land, DeNormandie boasts a breathtaking landscape of hardwood forests, rugged granite outcrops, rocky ledges, and a rich variety of terrains and elevations, all contributing to its exceptional natural beauty. Additionally, the property includes the headwaters of Cat Brook and Wolf Trap Brook, playing a vital role in preserving local water quality.

Since acquiring DeNormandie Woods, Greenbelt has been focused on mapping the land, marking trails, expanding a small parking area, and developing wayfinding signage. A special celebration event to commemorate its permanent protection is being planned for the fall.
