My View of Life on the Dock

There’s a free, volunteer-based online service offered through Find-a-Grave which allows people to view headstone photos taken by volunteers as a way of advancing their family history research. I am one of those volunteers and I recently re-visited Beechbrook Cemetery in hopes of fulfilling such a request. There were a number of requests on the list that day, and even though it was a little rainy, I decided to see what I might find there. Any excuse to visit this wonderful place is OK by me, rainy or not.

Sounds of children playing rang through the air off to one side, while excited dog barks filled the air coming from the opposite. I relished every minute until the raindrops threatened my camera’s well being. I did find one gravestone from the list to add to the online inventory:

Lucky for me, it was nice and easy to photograph and read. It isn’t always so! I love searching to fill these requests, it gives me a very good feel for the cemetery’s personality. And you never know who you might run into…..I think they were Find-a-Graving too……

These buffoons have zero credibility. The only reason they’re around is to be shit stirrers.

From Boston 25 News
“I’m looking overboard and thinking, ‘Ok, I’m just going to have to jump in,” said Constable.
Instead of jumping in, they were able to climb up on the jetty. Rockport’s harbormasters said if they hadn’t made it off the boat on their own, the wreckage may have gone unnoticed.
“They would have been out there all night if they had not gotten off the boat,” said Scott Story, a Rockport Harbormaster.
“That’s unusual that someone can step ashore in the sea conditions that were out there,” said Rosemary Lesch, a Rockport Harbormaster.

First step marinate the country ribs in Chinese Rib Sauce for at least an hour preferably overnight. I got this Butcher Block Sauces Original Chinese Rib Sauce at Market Basket.

Set up your kettle for indirect heat. I used a slow n sear on the right and be sure to line the other side of the charcoal grate with foil as this sauce is STICKY!

Using a chimney of lit coals, choke down the top vent half way and bottom vent half way and adjust accordingly to achieve around 275 degrees. Once the kettle is up to temp place the marinated country ribs opposite the coals at 275 degree pit temp for an hour. Add fruit wood (peach, apple, cherry) if you got it for smoke.

Leave the lid closed for an hour . About 45 minutes into the cook add a half a beer into a foil pan. I…

I often think of May as the magical month of migration through Massachusetts, but am beginning to think of October in the same light. At this time of year I don’t have much spare time but when you go out for even the briefest walk, you will encounter beautiful creatures not usually seen. Several days ago it was a Rusty Blackbird! I was only able to capture a single photo, but did catch half a minute of footage. He was pecking vigorously at the water’s edge, lifting and flipping leaves as he darted about looking for insects and plant matter.
Not only do they eat plants and insects, but they have also been documented attacking and eating other birds including sparrows and Robins.
Rusty Blackbirds are migrating through Cape Ann. They breed in the boggy boreal forests of the far north. During winter Rusty Blackbirds can be found at pond edges, swamps, and wet woodlands.
Rusty Blackbirds are mysteriously in sharp decline and sadly, their population has plummeted an estimated 80-99 percent.
