Dear Friends of the Gloucester Meetinghouse Foundation,
Please join us on July 18th at 6:00pm for music by Headlands, a favorite local band who brings an eclectic range of instruments for all to enjoy! Headlands, with their exciting three-part vocals that put their stamp on whichever musical genre they choose, whether an acoustic trio or a full-blown rock band with percussion, fiddle and horns, Headlands treats their audiences to thrilling harmonies, tight arrangements, and humor! Please join us for this spectacular Music on Meetinghouse Green event! Backyard Growers will be our local non-profit joining us for this event, Backyard Growers cultivates healthy, connected, resilient communities and fights for food sovereignty by empowering people to grow their own food. They increase equitable access to vegetable gardens and the resources people and communities need to grow their own food. Hey Joey, Gloucester is once again in the spotlight in Yankee Magazine. In the July/August issue, there is an article about a friendly rivalry between two co-workers as to whether going to a lake or the beach in NE is best. The one friend decides to take the other for a day at the beach, & where do they go? Good Harbor, of course! The article is titled ‘Wading In’ – & has pictures of Good Harbor & a description of all that’s’ ‘good’ about it.
Fun reading & another shout-out to Gloucester. Judy

Last Saturday was the 74th annual Dory Race between sister cities – and Grand Banks fishing schooner competitors – Gloucester, MA and Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. Canada won 3 of the 5 races, and there will be a second series in Lunenburg in August. Here are a few highlights from the races I saw.
Men’s 1-mile race, starting from Jodrey Fish Pier, at the head of the harbor.Team Canada (foreground) and Team USA outbound to the turning mark.Sam and Peter Taormina representing the United States smashed the Canadian team by roughly 40 seconds, but there is always great camaraderie after the finish. The 1/2-mile Women’s race outbound, with Team USA in the foreground.Team Canada prevailed in a well-fought battle. Most exciting was the Men’s Masters, with Team USA in the foreground.Another 1/2-mile course, it remained close on the return. The final push, with the boats synchronized stroke for stroke.Pretty impressive for one of the over 50 years of age races (there was another for Women).Team USA eked out a photo finish win by 23/100 of a second.
