After 365 days in the care of Cape Ann Animal Aid, Ozzie finally went home! Ozzie entered our care on July 29th, 2024 after Gloucester’s Animal Control took him into custody. He weighed a mere 46 lbs when he arrived, but after much love and care, he reached a healthy weight and his goofy, lovable personality shone through. He was adopted on July 29th, 2025, on the 1-year anniversary of his arrival!
“Ozzie update. Today makes 2 weeks of him being in his forever home. The first night he was home I woke up at 3am feeling like someone was staring at me. I opened my eyes and realized he was standing above me with his nose about an inch from my nose looking at me. Needless to say I was a little startled, I guess I was snoring and he was curious LOL. The first few days I was looking for his off switch. He had been full tilt from the minute he woke up till bed time. In 2 weeks he has only had 1 potty accident in the house. Ozzie has now settled into the daily routine and is very happy. I now know that I have a permanent shadow. Anytime I walk out of eyesight he immediately gets up to see where I am going. I also learned that the neighborhood now has a permanent watch dog. If a bag blows across the street 4 blocks away he hears it and has to bark at it no matter the time of day or night. He is a very loving boy that just wants to play and be loved. He loves doing zoomies and playing ball in the back yard and also loves going for rides in the truck. He has really enjoyed meeting new friends that have stopped by, offering them his ball to throw, (if they can get it LOL). He is a good boy and I want to thank Cape Ann Animal Aid for allowing me to adopt him. I hope this can give inspiration to other people to give older and bigger dogs a chance at a happy life.”

| PLAY YARD MATCHING CAMPAIGN We have less than $3,000 left to raise to meet our goal of raising $10,000 to improve and reinforce our play yard fencing! And you have 2 more weeks to have your gift matched by Tito’s Handmade Vodka! Through August 31st, Tito’s will generously match every dollar donated up to $10,000. That means your $25 gift becomes $50, helping us reach the $20,000 needed to:✅ Replace the old, dug-out fencing with a secure, permanent solution✅ Add a visual barrier between 2 of 3 play yards (hello, privacy!)✅ Create a calm, safe space where every dog can enjoy time outdoors—especially those who need a little extra space or get overstimulated easily These thoughtful updates will help dogs who are shy, reactive, or recovering from tough experiences feel safe and supported. With visual separation between play yards, they can enjoy outdoor time without the stress of seeing other dogs constantly. |

Long Walk Home…

We were prepped and ready…..drinks in hand and toes in sand….to enjoy the sunset last night and then that storm rolled in (click post to see time lapse video). Fortunately, after sitting in the car for a bit, the storm passed and it turned into a beautiful evening and a perfect sunset.

It feels as though many people are unaware that this is the 100th anniversary of the Fishermen’s Memorial Monument! There’s a great article by Gail McCarthy in the current edition of the Cape Ann magazine if you are interested. One of the Generous Gardeners recently advised that the Memorial looked exceptionally pretty this year with the flowers at the base and that I should document it, so here you go. The annual Fishermen’s Memorial Service will be held Saturday Aug 16 at 5 PM along Stacy Boulevard at the sight of the memorial. You may want to consider attending for this special anniversary. The procession begins at the American Legion on Washington St and proceeds to memorial tp honor those lost at sea. All are invited to attend. For additional information click this link.

Slow Start…

Title: Navigating Art & Science
Location: The Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester
Dates: August 28 – October 13, 2025
Opening Reception: 4–6 PM, Sunday, September 14, 2025
Gallery Hours: Thursday–Sunday, 12–5 PM
Free and Open to the Public.
Navigating Art & Science featuring eight artists who are deeply involved in scientific inquiry and activism. While local scientists search for ways to help ocean species be more resilient to survive the rapidly changing marine environment, these artists, alert to the predicament, are creating art with urgent messages for stewardship and action.
The exhibit coincides with a city-wide initiative STAND UP for Art & Science, coordinated by Gloucester Marine Genomics Institute volunteers.
While all the work in the exhibition has been created in response to human impact on the environment, in addition, several of the artists have been inspired by expeditions to the Arctic Circle and Greenland and residencies in marine laboratories on Cape Ann and beyond. The seven-week exhibit shows how art can transform the impact and implications of science into something concrete, visible and personal.
The public is invited to celebrate Navigating Art & Science at the Opening Reception on Sunday September 14, 4–6 PM. Mark your calendars for exhibition-related programming at the Cultural Center: a sneak preview of Ken Riaf’s new play, “Copy and Acknowledge” read by Lanes Coven actors on September 7 at 7:00 PM and an artists’ panel discussion on Sunday, September 28 at 4:00 PM, moderated by artist and writer, Chris Volpe.
Exhibiting Artists: Resa Blatman, Daisy Braun, Georgie Friedman, Perri Lynch Howard, Michelle Lougee, Michelle Samour, Jessica Straus, and Christopher Volpe.

Exhibition Title: Rephrasing
Location: Cove Gallery, 37 Rocky Neck Avenue, Gloucester, MA 01930
Dates: August 21 – September 14, 2025
Opening Reception: Thursday, August 21 from 4-7PM
Hours: Sunday and Monday, 12-5PM; Thursday – Saturday, 12-7PM

Rocky Neck Art Colony is proud to present Rephrasing, an exhibition curated by Janice Brand. This show, the fifth for the season at Cove Gallery, encompasses the mixed-media work of four artists who utilize the concepts of adaptation and revision.
Shira Karman focuses on fragments that relate to some other time or place, whether known or unknown. She is interested in how these fragments tell a story that she may know or hope to uncover.
Tobi Klein explores mono-printing, collage, and other mixed-media techniques, taking inspiration from the continual shifting of light, color, and pattern of the granite quarries and the sea. She builds a story, inviting viewers to peel back the layers and look below the surface.
Helen Tory uses diverse media to express her connection with birds described in her father’s 1930s nature diaries. A variety of paint, mark-making, torn papers, and string elicit each bird’s particular characteristics.
Patricia Wellenkamp uses a series of carved linoleum blocks to print on cotton and other fabrics. She incorporates embroidery, paper, and other elements to add ornamentation and complexity to images that might come from an ancestor’s dress, dahlias in her garden or imagined landscapes.
