Today I share a look back a couple years when the Head of the Harbor was a frozen mosaic of ice and slush.

Last few shots, I promise!
The weekends go by too fast! We had a great time in NY despite the sub zero temps. I promise these are the last few pics I’ll bore you with. These few black and whites are from our walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and the view from Hoboken, NJ at Sinatra Park looking over to Manhattan. Have a great Monday!!
NYC or bust
Yesterday’s cold weather didn’t stop us from some touring and night shooting around the City! (click below for some more shots)

Off the island
PRNWR Barred Owl overload
Sorry for the Owl overload on GMG lately but this guy just makes me smile every time I get to see him! If you are walking the Marsh Loop at the Hellcat Lot at Parker River National Wildlife Refuge keep an eye out for him or look for the crowd of his adoring fans! (as always…stay on the boardwalk and a keep a respectful distance away!)

Red Barrel Pub
You can’t drive past this spot without traveling back in time a bit. It’s become and iconic part of the Essex landscape.
Pink House…a puddle’s view
I’m always looking for different ways to photograph the same old view and sometimes dynamic weather and clouds, or finding something to frame the subject can help with changing the look of a scene. Another way to change the scene is to change your perspective. Getting down low and using the foreground is one of my favorite ways to make a scene interesting. In this case it was a 2-3 foot wide puddle in the middle of a parking lot across from the Pink House. With my camera sitting on the ground at the edge of the puddle, you can see the house and colors of the sunrise reflected. So get out and get down low… because you’ll never look at a little puddle the same way again!

Here are some outtakes below for some perspective of what you don’t see. (Note I took the large telephone pole out…it was annoying me lol!)
Mist on the marsh
Yesterday morning’s marsh view
Little River Fog
Morning glow
It’s a dog’s life at the beach
The rising temps this weekend had everyone out with their pups enjoying some fresh air. We took our Gracey for a walk at GHB to get some fresh air and make some new friends!

Sista Felicia’s beautiful St. Joseph’s altar
Getting Sista Felicia’s St. Joseph Altar ready really does take a village of amazing women, each of whom bring their own special talents. There is much to do cleaning, repairing, constructing, ironing, painting. Many hours later and lots of love, it is ready and waiting for Novena to start March 10th.

We may be fed up with it…but it’s still so pretty!
I know everyone has had enough of the shoveling and wintry weather…I myself am tired of wearing ugly big boots and ski pants to work everyday, but you have to admit that today’s snow is so beautiful!

Wintry dory
Looking forward to a little thaw today!

The storm breaks
The storm clouds broke just in time for sunset last night which was an awesome treat after a few very grey and white days. A little purple and pinkish glow just in time for Valentine’s day!

This is why I can’t have nice things..
You know that little black shovel that sits on top of the snow blower so if you iced up the auger, you can you IT instead of your hand? Well…it apparently can fall off the flimsy clip they put on the machine and get caught in the auger. That’ll teach hubs to go skiing during another snowstorm lol! Anyway….it’s all better. Nothing a little sawzall couldn’t fix! Careful today…it’s slippery under that snow!

Slushy Saturday on the Mill River
Lots of slush and snow on the Mill River this morning.

Glow at dusk
Hang in there!
Everyone is complaining about the slick conditions this morning and the approaching storm for tomorrow but I’m here thinking we got off pretty easy so far this winter! 1) It’s 32 days until daylight savings time (which should be a holiday in itself!!), 2) it’s actually light out when we leave work, 3) I can see the bottom of my wood pile….which all means… WE ARE OVER THE HUMP OF WINTER!!
Game day grub!
Everyone is prepping for the big game tonight and here my husband has some baked beans in the Dutch oven and smoking on the Traeger for 5-6 hrs…they smell amazing already! Later we will be throwing some drumsticks, wings and buffalo turds on there. Go PATS!
