Construction Ongoing At Police Station and District Court

Construction is well underway at the Main St location of the Gloucester Police Station and District Court. We did notice that the lovely little “teaching” lobster trap tree remains onsite for anyone missing the real thing. From Construction Manager W.T. Rich: Set for a construction start in June 2022, the project will consist of interior and exterior renovations to all three levels of the structure and will feature exterior envelope improvements, interior renovations, various critical building systems replacements, and the installation of an emergency generator. I am sure the improvements are much needed and will be well appreciated upon completion.

Treats From The Cove Cafe

We were delighted to go back to the Cove Cafe on Washington St. yesterday when we needed a little lunch and a few sweet treats. The lemonade bar is out of this world and Jim scarfed up the ricotta brownie. I also got an Italian sandwich. It’s a cozy little deli style place filled with fun menu items and friendly staff. They offer hot and cold food and daily specials. We won’t wait so long to return for the next visit!

Minglewood Win Win

Our friend Susan L recently celebrated a birthday so she had a free dinner and dessert added to her Serenitee account. We decided to go to Minglewood Harborside on Rogers St to “cash in”. Bonus, it was wing night (GREAT deal, GREAT wings). In case you were unaware, Minglewood offers specials each weeknight you should consider when making dinner plans. It’s a warm and friendly atmosphere, made even more cozy with the fireplace and music. This evening, there was a special event in the Captains Courageous Room (something to keep in mind for your future events) so it was hopping in there. Hoping to see you there soon! Thanks Minglewood for a great evening with friends.

So Long Solar Winter

This weather graphic from WBZ was very hopeful to me. We are apparently coming to the end of solar winter, the darkest period of the year. I suppose that’s the reason for Groundhog Day. We will now begin to see earlier sunrises and later sunsets, for which I am very grateful. The darkest period of the year in combination with the recent dreary weather has been challenging for the photographer in me as well for my general outlook. So it may not feel like it, but we are beginning the swing into spring. **Clocks spring forward Mar 10**

Shrieking Gulls

On Sunday’s podcast, we briefly talked about the shrieking of the gulls on Main St. I believe Joey mentioned he hadn’t noticed that too much from our vantage in the West End. That’s all that needed to be said before the gulls began to party.

Reminder Regarding Painted Buoy Pickup

A reminder from Cape Ann Art Haven follows. The Lobster Trap Tree really shone this year and the painted buoys added a special dimension.

Turner’s Seafood For Lunch

Our friend Jeff from Turners ‘s Seafood stopped by Gloucester Apparel and Pat D’s Photos on Main St recently and ordered a new mousepad for himself. It had arrived just in time for us to decide to have some delicious fish and chips for lunch so we made a delivery and a pick up in the same trip to Turner’s Seafood on Smith Street in Gloucester. It made for an amazing lunch on a dreary day! Thanks Jeff for lunch and for stopping by.

PS check out today’s Gloucester Daily Times for an article about Gloucester Apparel and Pat D’s Photos at 44 Main St! Thank you Ethan Forman!

Monday Night Dinner at Tonno

It had been one of those days….I think you know what I mean. We had driven back from New York and all I wanted was some warmth and comfort. We went to Tonno on Main St in Gloucester for an early dinner and the comfort of familiar surroundings and delicious food. We were not disappointed!

Sarah, our server, was knowledgeable and provided efficient service. Joe, the manager, greeted us with items from the bar bites menu: Scallop Bites and Crispy Shrimp (absolutely perfect). We were greeted by Pablo from behind the bar. I ordered my comfort food choice: Sunday Sauce and Jim got the Eggplant Parm that was on the specials menu. Each totally hit the mark, as usual. I ordered the Nutty Italian coffee as my dessert and Jim had biscotti. It felt a little bit like walking into Cheers as Norm. We were greeted warmly and served well. It was a little treat to start our week and I look forward to going back soon.

Sun Snow and Seeds

Backyard birding was particularly interesting in the day after the recent snowfall. It was sunny and snowy and there was fresh birdseed to tempt our visitors. The Merlin bird app indicated there was quite a variety out there.

Congratulations Julie S and thank you Chuck S!

Julie stopped down at our store at 44 Main St to pick up her podcast prize of a suncatcher from Pat D’s Photos. They also picked out a glass print for purchase. Thanks for listening and for the support.

Snowy Day Walk ARound Maritime Dock

We took a quick walk around the dock at Maritime Gloucester on the Harbor Loop in the sun following the snowfall. I cannot resist the setting down there especially on such a beautiful day. Remember to visit the museum Thursday-Monday (today!) 10 am – 4 pm.
