This Week at the Rhumb Line

As always, music 7 days per week…. 9 shows in all. Come try a Fred Burger, nachos, a Rib Eye, the French Onion Soup….or something else off our menu. Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Make Way For….

Make Way For Ducklings. We saw this cute little family in the harbor on Sunday. Fingers crossed they all make it. There are lots of perils for these little ducklings unfortunately. Mama was doing a great job keeping them all together!

Close Encounter

I was fortunate enough to take a boat ride around “the Cape” with GMG’s ,Chris Langathianos, on his awesome Zodiac the other day. (click for video) It was just choppy enough going around the outside…and along the back shore… to make it exciting….then super flat once rounding Halibut Point. We stopped to see the seals off of Rockport and then, as hoped, stumbled upon three or four humpback whales uncommonly close to land. With a ton of bait fish present on the surface, it was no wonder the whales had found their way inside the bay. It was a phenomenal afternoon and another reminder, after a dreary start to our spring, that we are indeed so lucky to live on Cape Ann. Thanks, Chris!

#Furthertogether2024

I am so excited to be attending the http://www.sheslocal.org/north-shore #furthertogether2024 North Shore Conference for Women today. The conference is about to start and it is undeniable that a tremendous group of women have gathered today to support each other, share, grow, learn, inspire, be inspired, and celebrate their unique selves and the power of the collective whole.

Music This Week at The Rhumb Line

As always, music seven days per week…with two shows on Fridays and Saturdays. Come for one show….or come for them all. Kitchen open and drinks pouring.

Birds of a Feather

Birds of a Feather. 110. Yes, I took the time to count because it seemed like an unusually large group of birds flying in mini formations together. I counted 110.

“Welcome Home”

I think there should be a children’s movie (maybe there is?) like Cars, but about boats. I was sitting at the Blue Collar the other day and totally envisioned the boats in their slips cheering the Seaweed on as it returned home. Personification. Each time I look at this photo, I hear the boats talking. Maybe I’m just tired.

Northern Lights

Northern Lights. On Friday night I was bartending and was afraid that I would miss the opportunity to see the Northern Lights. At almost 2:00 am I finally drove towards Plum Cove Beach (nothing), then Lanes Cove (nothing), then the Lobster Pool (a little action), past Halibut Point (CROWDED), to Granite Pier (some decent photos), to Bearskin Neck (better), then to T Wharf (bingo). I’ve added a few of my favorite photos.

Night Deposits

I had never noticed this Night Deposit “box” outside the building on the corner of Main Street and Duncan Street in Gloucester. It caught my eye the other day while walking by.

At The Cut

At The Cut. I was so excited to see Chris + Joe and Chelsea Berry on Saturday night at The Cut. Unbelievably, my very first time at The Cut was just two weeks ago. If you haven’t checked it out, you really should. My first impression, upon walking in to the back of the main room is that I felt like I was in one of the many bars in Nashville that I love to spend time in. The music venue itself is also really cool. While we sat at a table in the front row for Chris + Joe, I chose to mingle a bit near the bar during Chelsea’s show. Here’s a shot from side stage.

Fishermen

Fishermen. Have you ever had the opportunity to sit on the bleachers at the Newell Stadium and watch the Fishermen (football, lacrosse, soccer, track, etc) play on the New Balance Field? It is really quite special. The new wall that follows the river obstructs some of the view, but even so, watching the kids play while both recreational and commercial vessels head in and out of the harbor as the cut bridge goes up and down is super unique. I’ve often heard parents from opposing teams talk about what a great location we have. Gloucester things.

Dining a La Fresco

Dining a la Fresco. I watched this seagull enjoy his breakfast on top of the neighbor’s chimney. He was keeping a watchful eye out for other birds to swoop in and steal his meal.
