While an undergraduate, she studied many fields of art, including bronze-casting Sculpture at Mount Holyoke College, Silversmithing at Oregon State University and Watercolor Painting and Silkscreen Printing at Amherst College. Her love of watercolor painting was propelled by classes with Carl Schmalz, a protege of Eliot O’Hara, who traveled and painted plein air, writing many books on watercolor. She began painting plein air in 1973 and has continued to work outdoors since that time.
During her time at the UMass, she was employed as a Silversmithing Instructor at the UMass Craftshop and at the Oregon State University Craftshop. For many years, she considered herself a silversmith, making jewelry and selling her work through craft fairs and classes. She continued her study of metals at Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, and eventually studied forging and raising with Master Silversmith Alan Place at Old Newbury Crafters in Amesbury, MA.
But the love of painting persisted, and in 2001, she renewed her interest in watercolor painting at a summer workshop on Monhegan Island with renowned artist Paul George. She began to study oil painting and found a new freedom of expression in the medium, creating large 4’x5′ canvases of local landscapes. KT has been accepted as an artist member of the Hudson Valley Art Association, North Shore Arts Association, Rockport Art Association & Museum and the National Association of Women Artists. She has received numerous awards for her work.
KT and Paul are now married and travel extensively, participating in national plein air events. Together they own a gallery at Rocky Neck Art Colony in Gloucester, MA on beautiful Cape Ann.

Many traditions mark the rising of spring in mid-February when a thrumming begins deep in the earth. Feminine archetypes speak of “the Return.” What was buried through the winter now begins to wake and rise up. Shoots of green return, sparks of revelation appear. In this workshop we’ll listen to what is rising in us and how we might engage with this part of the creative cycle. There will be space for writing and voice; poetry and image; and sharing in a supportive circle of women.
Words live in the body, rise up from the marrow. Writing is full of physicality, the hand moves across paper with each breath and our voice carries an aliveness whether written or spoken. This is a writing series to foster the unbridled and embodied voice. Through prompts and poetry, silence and sound, we’ll discover what is cooking in the body’s imagination turning toward Spring.
Individual coaching for those seeking support in defining a project or moving forward an existing project, such as art or writing. Support as well for those desiring to move beyond stuck places in their life. Life as collage, bringing resolution and harmony to the pieces we endlessly shuffle. Practical, playful, grounded, transformational.
Poetry reading with Nadine Boughton, Mary Cole and Patrick Doud, Sunday, March 25, 3pm. Rocky Neck Cultural Center, 6 Wonson St., Gloucester

The Cape Ann Artisans have set the schedule for 2018. The Spring Tour will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 2-3. The Fall Tour will encompass the entire three day Columbus Day Weekend, Oct 6-8 which falls during American Craft Week (Oct 6-15), a national celebration. The tour time is 10AM-5PM. The Holiday Show will return during Rockport’s Main Street festivities in early December alongside Shop Rockport night.
Among the new developments for 2018, the Artisans are in discussion with a local tour operator to put a real “tour” option in place. This would provide a convenient alternative to those that would like to hop on a mini-bus vs. drive their own vehicles.
Also exciting is the expansion of the “Cape Ann Artisans in the Community” event throughout the year. If you have a regular meeting where your organization would appreciate exposure to this group, the Artisans will create an on-site display and mini-presentation to provide some insight as to role in the community, education, and quality of life that is enhanced by the presence of working artists. Meet the artists, hear about the CAA history and help share the story with your community. To request a visit by the artisans, please send a note to Jackie via info@CapeAnnArtisans.com.
The Artisans thank the community for its continued support of its partner program that includes sponsorships on the brochure and online. Annually, the Artisans print and distribute over 12,000 brochures which are distributed throughout the region. The annual printed brochure with the Cape Ann map outlining the tour, will be finalized in early February and a few places are still available for local businesses. Those interested should contact Sinikka Nogelo [snogelo@yahoo.com] before January 31 to secure one of the limited spaces. Online-only sponsorships are accepted on a rolling basis.
The Tour will include 20 studios and 23 Artisans, with several working as husband and wife teams and Ruth Worrall teaming up with Bart Stuyf at his studio. The Artisans newest member is Andy Matlow, who creates sculptural and functional ceramics and Judith Wright returns from sabbatical. The 2018 Artisans are:
