I hope this message finds you well. I wasn’t sure of the best way to submit a blog post request to GMG, so I’m reaching out directly.

My name is Brooke Mackesy, and I’m the daughter of Victor Anido from AMVETS Post 32. I’m writing to share some incredibly special news about my father, and to ask if GMG would consider highlighting it in a post, given its significance to both the veteran and broader Gloucester community.

On July 19, 2025, during Military Day at the Patton Homestead in Hamilton, MA, my father, Victor Anido, was awarded the Honorary Order of St. Michael Airborne Infantry Medal. This national honor recognizes individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to the Airborne and Infantry communities through their service, integrity, and professional excellence.

Victor is the 172nd recipient of this prestigious award.

The award was presented to him by Ret. Captain Rich Barbato, alongside Helen and Ben Patten, grandchildren of General Patton. As Rich said during the presentation, he was “honored to present The Honorary Order of St. Michael to Victor Anido. For those who know him, the years he’s dedicated to helping fellow veterans in the Gloucester community, and his service as a Veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division, make him a true embodiment of the values of a U.S. Paratrooper.”

Victor’s military achievements are only part of what makes this award so meaningful. He has worked tirelessly for decades to support veterans across Cape Ann—especially through his leadership at AMVETS Post 32—and we, as a family, are humbled by the profound impact he continues to have in our community.

We believe this honor deserves to be shared with the wider Gloucester audience, and we would be incredibly grateful if GMG could help us do that.

Chief Edward Conley and the Gloucester Police Department invite residents to attend the 2025 Gloucester Lobster Crate Race on Saturday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m.

The Gloucester Lobster Crate Race, which is held in front of the Beauport Hotel at Pavilion Beach in Gloucester, sees participants competing to run across a string of lobster crates floating atop the water.

Registration to participate in the race has now closed. Anyone is welcome to attend the event as a viewer, free of cost. Runners can arrive starting at 9:30 a.m. to pick up their registration bracelets and t-shirts.

All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital. 

“The Lobster Crate Race is an exciting annual summer event, which celebrates Gloucester’s history and community. I am grateful for our Community Impact Unit’s hard work in organizing this event. I hope everyone is able to attend to cheer on the runners. I wish all the runners the best of luck!”

Hey Joey, I wanted to reach out. This is an absolute beautiful story. This is one of Chris’s best friends my godson Chase Sargent his parents gifted him Chris surfboards and they had a passion for surfing. I thought it would be a beautiful story wholesome about true friendship other than you know the sports it’s just a really great story. He was a well-rounded kid and Chase is doing a beautiful Hawaiian tribute to him no money no fuss just a great day for people to go out and do a beautiful sendoff in the ocean I thought you might want to reach out to Chase. He’s an amazing boy finding strength to do something his friend would LOVE!!
