Autism Community Support

Happy Valley Ventures MA, Inc., the non-profit seeking to construct and operate a medical marijuana dispensary and cultivation facility in the Blackburn Industrial Park, will be holding an open house the evening of April 27. It will be a great opportunity for the residents of Gloucester to learn more about the proposal. I would appreciate if you could post the attached flyer on Good Morning Gloucester. Thanks.

Karen Pishke Represents! In India

My husband and I recently traveled to India for a family wedding. In my mad dash to the airport, I left my GMG stickers at home. While there I was never able to connect to the hotel’s very slow computer to access my email, and truly felt ‘a world away.’ Somehow, I did manage to logonjust once to GMG’s website to catch up on local news and print a GMG sticker. The Indian wedding was 3 days long, and included a Sikh and Hindu ceremony. I took part in the mendhi (henna) and other ceremonies. The family also arranged tours of Old Delhi and the Taj Mahal. We totally immersed ourselves in Indian culture and customs, were charmed by our warm new relatives, and enjoyed delicious, buffet Indian meals. Cows were seen roaming the streets and sidewalks, along with dogs and monkeys, like this one seen at the Taj Mahal. And if anyone thinks Boston driving is crazy, they haven’t been to India! This video is shot from the front of our bus, on the way to the Taj Mahal. :O

Dodgeball recap/Getting emotional

After Dodgeball in the car I was talking to Kate about how there’s so much that goes into putting something like that on but when you’ve got such awesome friends the obstacles you run into all get worked out when you’ve got those kinds of people around you in the planning stages.

Alicia’s team descended on this one guy on Rabbits team and I thought there was going to be a cat fight for sure.  The way they were throwing themselves in between the other girls and the guy it was unbelievable.

Aggressive box blocking. The fight for the peen

Cutting the cord.  How much do each of you guys pay what do you have for service and do you plan to do anything about it?

I pay $181 for the triple play and I think it’s outrageous.

Bruins didn’t make the playoffs and I didn’t even think that was possible with how many teams that make the NHL playoffs. Attending an NHL Playoff game is intense.

Last year or so Yeti coolers all the rage.  Craig shooting a show and the mountain man guy is sponsored by Rtic coolers.  Go to the website and literally half the price for what looks to be exact same cooler.  Some guys saying but these other coolers are made in the USA.
What percentage if any percentage more would you pay for an American made cooler that has the same exact specs as a foreign made cooler?

I get sick thinking about how much money I wasted on gas grills. On the hunt for CraigsList grills for James and Craig.

Advice for BJ going to college for orientation.

The Play, Dogtown Common, is a Stirring Portrayal of Community

The Play, Dogtown Common, is a Stirring Portrayal of Community

Every time we hear about another drug overdose in our community, we are reminded that addiction and mental health are serious issues that are not going away.  This really hit home on Sunday afternoon as we witnessed a remarkable performance by the North Shore Folklore Theatre Company.  Dogtown Common: Never Try, Never Win is at once the history and demise of one of Gloucester’s most unique and misunderstood areas as well as the present-day story of one man’s descent into the opioid quagmire.  An essential theme of the production has to do with the community’s response to his suffering.   Past and present come together in a powerful production that featured Gloucester citizens ranging in age from 8 to 81 as well as some terrific original music.

The sold-out show was followed by a spirited and substantive discussion between audience members and the cast.  What stood out was how much people could relate the themes of the performance to their everyday lives.  The message we took away was that a caring community is a really important part of the healing process.

The show really rocked.  Final performances take place on Friday and Saturday, April 15 and 16,at 7:00 pm and Sunday, April 17, at 2:00pm in the back room of the Floating Lotus store, 169 Main St., Gloucester.

Dog lovers can observe this rare and unusual breed at a Speciality Show for Kangal dogs.  Owners will come from all over the US to participate, including Cape Ann native Mary Hughes.  The unusual profile of the Kangal dog is what makes this show so interesting.  Originally from Turkey, their centuries old history is based on flocking guarding skills that are on display still today, in Turkey and the US, although there is an estimated 800 in this country.
