CAPE ANN COLLECTORS proudly presents the stylistic journey of seven masters, departing academies in Europe to discover distinctive atmospheric perspectives on Cape Ann. Our spring show, “BREATHING CAPE ANN’S RAREFIED AIR,” opens Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12, 1-5 p.m., running Saturdays through May 2 (all 52 works on display)!

Cape Ann masters, in their own words:

“Gloucester became an artistic challenge – all coastal days have a certain amount of ‘fog’ to them…I am always aware of the atmospheric shifts in sea air.” – Emile Gruppe (1896-1978)

“I became energized and revitalized…capturing the soft prismatic glow of air – atmospheric perspective.” – John Twachtman (1853-1902)

“I became a Folly Cove artist…capturing atmosphere and light – where people live and work and play.” – Leon Kroll (1884-1974)

Additionally, Theresa Bernstein (1890-2002), William Meyerowitz (1887-1981), Hayley Lever (1876-1958), and Gordon Grant (1875-1962) experienced powerful shifts in air, light and color captured by their ambitious experimentation while working on Cape Ann. Come experience our carefully curated display of masters showcasing their journey – while breathing rarefied air.
