The Move- Pulling Up to North Shore Sports Dock Next To Beacon Marine and Getting a Couple Bags of Their Perfect Ice For Your Boat Coolers When You Fuel Up.

I want you to notice something that more times than not is not the case- When you get your ice at North Shore Sports Dock its not all clumped up and stuck together. It’s individual cocktail cube shaped that dumps out nicely and fills all the crevices around your beverages to keep them frosty cold. They also use the ice bags that have the drawstrings which allows you to re-use the bags for trash after. Wins all the way around!!!

Pro-tip- get your ice on your way out of Smith Cove in East Gloucester. You’ll be glad you did!

Mayor Verga Announces Completion of Gloucester’s Comprehensive Plan: A Community Roadmap for the Next Decade

Gloucester, MA — Mayor Greg Verga is proud to announce the completion and official adoption of the City of Gloucester’s Comprehensive Plan 2025–2035,  a forward-looking, community-driven roadmap that will guide growth, priorities, and investment over the next 10 years.

“This is more than just a document, it’s a promise to our community,” said Mayor Verga. “It’s aspirational, actionable, and attainable. And it reflects what thousands of Gloucester residents shared with us about their hopes for the future of our city.”

The Comprehensive Plan was developed over two years through robust public engagement, with nearly 4,000 community participation touchpoints through surveys, meetings, workshops, and events. The result is a visionary plan centered on local values and goals, Gloucester’s unique identity, natural beauty, working waterfront, creative economy, and iconic neighborhoods.

Key highlights from the plan include:

  • Upgrading infrastructure,  including roads, water, sewer, schools, and recreational facilities, to support evolving community needs.
  • Expanding housing options for residents at all life stages and income levels.
  • Supporting economic growth by strengthening Gloucester’s marine economy and attracting innovation-driven industries.
  • Creating safer, healthier connections through walkable neighborhoods, expanded bike and transit access, and public health investments.

Mayor Verga plans to appoint an Implementation Committee, composed of community members, city staff, and representatives from boards and commissions, that will be tasked with ensuring meaningful and transparent progress on the plan’s goals. The following phase will include annual reporting, performance tracking, and continued public involvement.

“This effort has been central to my vision for Gloucester since day one,” said Mayor Verga. “It’s deeply gratifying to see this plan finalized and I’m incredibly proud of the team effort it represents. From the Planning Board and City staff to our partners and residents, Gloucester showed up and helped shape this together. Now, the real work begins: turning vision into action.”

The Community Development Department will present the plan to the City Council on Tuesday, July 22, 2025.

The full plan is available on the City of Gloucester’s website at https://tinyurl.com/gloucestercompplan.

Margarita Monday At Mile Marker 1 bluefin Blowout Event

Many of you are aware we spent quite a bit of time down at this year’s Bluefin Blowout held at the Mile Marker 1 Marina. It was an amazing fundraising event to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. So, the margarita last Monday at the FUNraising Bash tasted extra yummy. A day or so later we were honored to witness the arrival of the champion 728 lb tuna brought in by Jimmy Rig Charters (see video below)

Victor Anido, was awarded the Honorary Order of St. Michael Airborne Infantry Medal. This national honor recognizes individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to the Airborne and Infantry communities through their service, integrity, and professional excellence.

Hi Joey,

I hope this message finds you well. I wasn’t sure of the best way to submit a blog post request to GMG, so I’m reaching out directly.

My name is Brooke Mackesy, and I’m the daughter of Victor Anido from AMVETS Post 32. I’m writing to share some incredibly special news about my father, and to ask if GMG would consider highlighting it in a post, given its significance to both the veteran and broader Gloucester community.

On July 19, 2025, during Military Day at the Patton Homestead in Hamilton, MA, my father, Victor Anido, was awarded the Honorary Order of St. Michael Airborne Infantry Medal. This national honor recognizes individuals who have made exceptional and lasting contributions to the Airborne and Infantry communities through their service, integrity, and professional excellence.

Victor is the 172nd recipient of this prestigious award.

The award was presented to him by Ret. Captain Rich Barbato, alongside Helen and Ben Patten, grandchildren of General Patton. As Rich said during the presentation, he was “honored to present The Honorary Order of St. Michael to Victor Anido. For those who know him, the years he’s dedicated to helping fellow veterans in the Gloucester community, and his service as a Veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division, make him a true embodiment of the values of a U.S. Paratrooper.”

Victor’s military achievements are only part of what makes this award so meaningful. He has worked tirelessly for decades to support veterans across Cape Ann—especially through his leadership at AMVETS Post 32—and we, as a family, are humbled by the profound impact he continues to have in our community.

We believe this honor deserves to be shared with the wider Gloucester audience, and we would be incredibly grateful if GMG could help us do that.

Thank you so much for considering it.

Warm regards,
Brooke Anido
