Machaca on Rogers St. for lunch during Fiesta was a great call. The Caldo Tlalpeno soup hit that spot on that coolish afternoon. Always outstanding. They also had the Bar Bites menu available and the taquitos were AMAZING—I am definitely getting those again. Jim had the slider variety from the Bar Bites menu which looked really tempting. Thanks, as always, Machaca for greeting us in a friendly manner, the efficient service and the wonderful menu!

Salty’s will be closed on Saturday, July 5th and Sunday, July 6th. We’ll be reopening on Saturday, July 12th at 1 Whistlestop Mall in Rockport.

| MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA – Chief Todd Fitzgerald and the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department are pleased to share that Lieutenant Mark McCoy has successfully graduated from the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Association’s (FBI-LEEDA) Five Star Chief Executive Institute. Lt. McCoy graduated from FBI-LEEDA’s inaugural Five Star Chief Executive Institute on June 27 after completing the two-week, 18-module program held in Smyrna, Del. During the training, leaders from across the country discussed and learned about a variety of topics, including public-private partnerships, crisis communication, leadership integrity, liability management, wellness and more. The goal of the training was to better equip participants with the tools for making informed, strategic and accountable decisions. This is the first Five Star Chief Executive Institute program that was offered by FBI-LEEDA, and the official launch of the program is expected to take place this fall. Lt. McCoy has served as a member of the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department for 29 years and was promoted to lieutenant in 2019. He also serves as an Executive Officer and oversees operations, patrol, detectives, school resource officers, court officers, accreditation, and supervises and leads training across the department. “I would like to congratulate Lt. McCoy on his accomplishment in successfully graduating from this program,” said Chief Fitzgerald. “His commitment to education shows his exceptional leadership skills, and we are proud to have him serving our community.” ### |

Thank you to Boo Bird on Central St in Manchester for a lovely respite after our long drive home from New York. It was the perfect place to stop and refresh ourselves before we arrived home. I had the American Rice Bowl and Jim had the Fish and Chips. Jim was very happy with the fish batter..not too heavy with good flavor. Everyone has their batter preferences for fish and this hit the mark for Jim. I loved my salad. The screened open window seating was super comfortable on that warm day. We’ll be back soon!

Pop-up Art Show…

The Salted Cod Gallery is delighted to announce that Judy Robinson-Cox, a celebrated Gloucester-based multimedia artist, will be the featured guest artist for the month of July. Known for her imaginative Lilliputian landscapes and whimsical visual storytelling, Robinson-Cox’s work invites viewers to see the extraordinary in the everyday.
A fixture in the New England arts scene, Robinson-Cox has exhibited extensively throughout the region and beyond, with solo and group shows at institutions such as the Rockport Art Association, Marblehead Arts Association, Griffin Museum of Photography, Johnson & Wales Culinary Arts Museum, and even Neiman Marcus. Her miniature, meticulously crafted environments blur the boundaries between photography, sculpture, and montage—offering humorous, surreal, and poignant glimpses into tiny imagined worlds.
“My art has always been a space to explore the humorous, surreal, and poignant elements of life—often through a very tiny lens,” says Robinson-Cox. “It’s a joy to bring these worlds to new audiences, and I’m thrilled to show this body of work at The Salted Cod.”
Visitors can view Judy Robinson-Cox’s work daily throughout July. The Salted Cod Gallery is open from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM, located in the heart of Gloucester’s working waterfront. Admission is free and open to the public.
About the Venue: The Salted Cod Arthouse
In 2021, local residents Matthew Moynahan and Thomas Aurelio purchased the historic “Tin Building”—a former fish preparation and paint warehouse—alongside the iconic Rudder Restaurant. Committed to revitalizing Rocky Neck, they reopened the building in 2022 following the thoughtful restoration of its second floor to create additional space for the arts. Today, The Salted Cod Arthouse proudly serves as a creative and cultural hub, offering local art, libations, and essential provisions to sailors, fishermen, artists, visitors, and curious passersby in America’s oldest seaport and working art colony.
