Schooner challenge Aboard The Ardelle

Last Tuesday, we started our day on the water with a ride out to Straitsmouth Island and ended the day aboard the Ardelle for the weekly Tuesday Schooner Challenge. This time, Isabella was crewed by the Schooner Adventure mates as we ventured out into the harbor for the “race” pitting Maritime Gloucester interns against the experienced Adventure crew. As opposed to the previous week, we were able to stay dry this time! There’s always something going on for these outings and this time we experienced a “man overboard” drill which included rescuing a lead filled bumper which was dropped overboard. We love watching these interns learn such a variety of skills during these sails. Highly recommended (PS there’s a Tuesday ticket discount). Tickets available here.

Fiesta Friday Greasy Pole Supercut – 6/27/25 from Jarred Gallagher

• Fiesta Friday Greasy Pole Supercut – 6/27/25

Jarred writes:

Over 2 hours of footage, condensed into 18 minutes.

This is by far the most work I ever put into one video, so I really hope you like it and share!

I got about 98% of the attempts recorded. Some were too shaky to use. Sorry if one of yours isn’t in here, but I bet at least one is! Learned a lot for next year too!

By Land and by Sea (and Air) — pat morss

A recent variety of encounters around Gloucester.

White-tailed deer in the driveway, with velvet nourishing its growing antlers.
A flock of fluffy young starlings, not yet dark like their elders.
Eddy (The Great) Egret mimicking a cormorant drying its wings?
A Green Heron surveys the water lillies on Niles Pond.
A mother mallard has her wings full with 13 scattering ducklings in the fog.
Also in Brace Cove, this picnic may have ended prematurely.
At Fiesta, fog allowed the seine boats to watch the Greasy Pole (the only female on Sunday).
Perhaps practicing for the around-Cape-Ann Blackburn Challenge Cup (20 miles at sea).
Sailing ‘Troll’ past schooner ‘Thomas E Lannon’ outside Eastern Point.
I yelled out: “What kind of vessel are you”? Answer: “A row boat.”
I found ‘London Calling 2024’ tied up with the dories at the “Gloucester Maritime Museum.”
The 2024 attempted row from Boston to London was aborted at sea with electrical failure.

Angel Wings Wellness-Take care of your Endocannabinoid system and it will take care of you!

 BY ANGEL WINGS WELLNESS

Our bodies consist of many unique physiologic systems whose sole purpose is to maintain an internal balance called homeostasis. We know the pancreas releases insulin to balance glucose levels between the bloodstream and cells. The thyroid gland releases thyroid hormone, which regulates vital bodily functions related to metabolism, body temperature and much more. Simply put, our bodies are working constantly to stay balanced in response to our external environment.

In the quest to understand how THC causes its well-known intoxicating effects, scientists discovered that we have yet another regulatory physiologic system, called the endocannabinoid system or ECS, whose role is to maintain homeostasis of the messages sent between our cells. Further research has shown that sickness, inflammation, and injury will trigger the ECS to take action, working to reset our internal environment back to homeostasis. This system has been described as being protective and necessary for life. What if we could target this system to prevent illness and maintain better health? Adding high quality CBD may help get you there!

We are open Friday, Saturday 11:00-4:00 pm or call/text 978-985-4592 for private appointment or phone consultation!

Margarita Monday At The Burn

We stopped by The Burn on Main St (formerly Halibut Point) to celebrate their opening and Margarita Monday. The place was hopping for a Monday dinner time, which we were very happy to see. I got the margarita, expertly prepared. I also ordered the baked haddock and Jim got a veggie burger. We sat at the bar with friends and watched some of the grill prep as we visited and waited for our meals. To top things off, I had an Irish Coffee which was delicious though it lacked the whipped cream I like. That’s because they haven’t started offering dessert yet, so that was an acceptable reason…..Thanks Maria and crew at The Burn!
