Chief Edward Conley and the Gloucester Police Department invite residents to attend the 2025 Gloucester Lobster Crate Race on Saturday, July 26, at 10:30 a.m.

The Gloucester Lobster Crate Race, which is held in front of the Beauport Hotel at Pavilion Beach in Gloucester, sees participants competing to run across a string of lobster crates floating atop the water.

Registration to participate in the race has now closed. Anyone is welcome to attend the event as a viewer, free of cost. Runners can arrive starting at 9:30 a.m. to pick up their registration bracelets and t-shirts.

All proceeds from the event will directly benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital. 

“The Lobster Crate Race is an exciting annual summer event, which celebrates Gloucester’s history and community. I am grateful for our Community Impact Unit’s hard work in organizing this event. I hope everyone is able to attend to cheer on the runners. I wish all the runners the best of luck!”

I noticed a post from the City of Gloucester Facebook page that the City has partnered with Seaside Sustainability to install a seabin in the harbor near the Harbormaster’s Office, so we went down to check it out. Here’s a quote from the City’s page: Thanks to our partnership with Seaside Sustainability , this innovative device is helping to keep our harbor cleaner by collecting floating debris from the water. The Seaside team regularly empties the seabin, logs what they find, and carefully returns any natural materials like seaweed back to the ocean.

A seabin is a floating trashcan that acts like a garbage skimmer to help keep the waters cleaner. If you’re walking down the ramp toward the pier for the Harbor Shuttle, you might notice it and wonder about it. Now you know. I think it’s a great idea that deserves a shout out. Hey Joey, I wanted to reach out. This is an absolute beautiful story. This is one of Chris’s best friends my godson Chase Sargent his parents gifted him Chris surfboards and they had a passion for surfing. I thought it would be a beautiful story wholesome about true friendship other than you know the sports it’s just a really great story. He was a well-rounded kid and Chase is doing a beautiful Hawaiian tribute to him no money no fuss just a great day for people to go out and do a beautiful sendoff in the ocean I thought you might want to reach out to Chase. He’s an amazing boy finding strength to do something his friend would LOVE!!
