We noticed some new activity at Lane’s Cove that I presume is due to the reported filming that will be occuring in our area in the weeks ahead. I think it will make a great location for filming! Good luck to cast and crew.

The Cape Ann Community Foundation (CACF) will celebrate its support for the region’s non-profit organizations and programs with its second annual Candlepins for a Cause fundraiser event at Cape Ann Lanes on June 5.

That evening, from 5:30-7:30 pm, the Foundation will celebrate recipients of its 2025 grants. Since its inception in 2015, the foundation has awarded more than 50 grants totaling over $100,000 to Cape Ann non-profit and community organizations. This year, the Foundation received a record number of grant applications during the April proposal submission period. The Foundation selected nine recipients from across Cape Ann, representing a range of services.

At the June 5 event, CACF grant recipients and friends of the Foundation will come together to spotlight CACF support for community organizations and programs and promote adoption of the Cape Ann license plates, which play a key role in this work by generating funds for Foundation grants. The sale of Cape Ann license plates and direct donations to CACF make the Foundation grants possible.

Anyone interested in forming a team is asked to make a $200 donation for a team of six bowlers. Individual bowlers can join for a $35 donation to the Foundation.  Those who’d like to attend the event and cheer on the bowlers – and support the Foundation – can do so with a $20 donation.

Bowlers will compete for prizes for best team score and best individual blowers.

Teams, individual bowlers and other attendees can register by clicking on the event link on the Cape Ann Community Foundation website, www.lovecapeann.com.

“The support we generate with Candlepins for a Cause – along with the revenue from Cape Ann license plate sales and direct donations to the Foundation – helps us assist our region’s non-profit and community organizations,” said CACF Co-Chair Britta Cahoon.

“The Candlepins for a Cause fundraiser will be a fun way to help the Foundation continue its work while honoring the organizations that serve the Cape Ann community,” said  Tony Sapienza, CACF Co-Chair. 

CACF held its first-ever Candlepins for a Cause event in June 2024, and the fundraiser was a sell-out. The Foundation also held a successful virtual golf Driving for Dollars fundraiser at Harbor 9 Golf in February, spotlighting the Cape Ann license plate.

“Moxie” An art Gallery with Verve invites you to celebrate the beginning of our 2025 season. Moxie Gallery, aptly name in the spirit of determination and grit, in challenging times when many galleries have been forced to close their doors, will bring together a variety of artists this summer. Holding steadfast to the artistic history on Rocky Neck, the artists want Moxie to not only serve as place to view art but also a community space where people can gather and enjoy their unique neighborhood.

The gallery is coordinated by Gloucester artists Anne Gilson, Carolyn Plourde and Vanessa Michalak and will also display the work of Jennifer K. Brown, Barbe Ennis and Stephen LaPierre. In additional the gallery will host five 12 day pop up shows by artists:

The wisteria around the area caught my attention recently. It’s so striking to find it positioned against our large boulders or along fencelines. The word wisteria evokes whimsy and yet wistfulness. To me, they look a little bit like upside down lupines, which are another favorite of mine. Cheers to the wisteria, though they seem almost at the end of their blooming season.
