Hello Dolly!

Youth Wanted

Auditions to be held May 28 at Village Hall

The Annisquam Village Players, one of the country’s oldest community theatres, will hold auditions at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, May 28 for its production of the Broadway classic Hello Dolly! that will be performed Aug. 5-10 at the historic Annisquam Village Hall.  Auditions for ages 6-12 will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Local youth ages 6 years and older and teens who are interested in musical theatre are encouraged to participate as there are many roles and ensemble opportunities.

Auditionees will be asked to sing a portion of a musical selection from the show and read a few lines of dialogue. Copies of the musical selections, character sides, and full details can be found on the AVP websitewww.annisquamvillageplayers.org.

See the complete list of available roles below.

The show is a 1964 musical that follows the story of Dolly Gallagher Levi, a strong-willed matchmaker, as she travels to Yonkers, NY, to find a match for the miserly “well-known unmarried half-a-millionaire” Horace Vandergelder.

The lyrics and music were written by Jerry Herman and the book by Michael Stewart. It is based on Thornton Wilder’s 1938 farce, The Merchant of Yonkers.

Hello, Dolly! debuted at the Fisher Theater in Detroit on November 18, 1963.  It starred stage performer Carol Channing as Dolly Gallagher Levi, a role theatrical audiences of the world would forever associate with her. The show moved to Broadway in 1964, winning 10 Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Actress in a Musical for Channing.

Since then, the show has become one of the most enduring musical theater hits, with four Broadway revivals and international success. It was also made into the 1969 film Hello Dolly! by 20th Century Fox, which won three Academy Awards, including Best Score of a Musical Picture and was nominated in four other categories, including Best Picture at the 42nd Academy Awards.

THE SWIRLING ROMANTIC CONCERT this weekend! Featuring Great Pianist Myron Romanul | Cape Ann Symphony 𝄞 🎼

Heidi Dallin shares a reminder about the Cape Ann Symphony upcoming concert and a fun fact:

“The guest artist Myron Romanul made his Cape Ann Symphony debut performing the Mozart Concerto No. 27 in…1966!

Cape Ann Cultural History moment from Myron Romanul:

On August 25, 1966, I made my full-concerto debut with the Cape Ann Symphony Orchestra with the Mozart: Concerto No. 27 and Jerome D. Cohen was the conductor for that concert. I don´t remember too much about it except that I was very excited to perform with an orchestra and they were very kind to me. This was the beginning of more appearances with orchestras.”

CBD Reduces Blood Pressure!

 BY ANGEL WINGS WELLNESS

A single dose of CBD reduces blood pressure in healthy volunteers in a randomized crossover study. A study by “The Journal of Clinical Insight”

BACKGROUND. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a nonpsychoactive phytocannabinoid used in multiple sclerosis and intractable epilepsies. Preclinical studies show CBD has numerous cardiovascular benefits, including a reduced blood pressure (BP) response to stress. The aim of this study was to investigate if CBD reduces BP in humans.

METHODS. Nine healthy male volunteers were given 600 mg of CBD or placebo in a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover study. Cardiovascular parameters were monitored using a finometer and laser Doppler.

RESULTS. CBD reduced resting systolic BP (–6 mmHg; P < 0.05) and stroke volume (–8 ml; P < 0.05), with increased heart rate (HR) and maintained cardiac output. Subjects who had taken CBD had lower BP (–5 mmHg; P < 0.05, especially before and after stress), increased HR (+10 bpm; P < 0.01), decreased stroke volume (–13 ml; P < 0.01), and a blunted forearm skin blood flow response to isometric exercise. In response to cold stress, subjects who had taken CBD had blunted BP (–6 mmHg; P < 0.01) and increased HR (+7 bpm; P < 0.05), with lower total peripheral resistance.

CONCLUSIONS. This data shows that acute administration of CBD reduces resting BP and the BP increase to stress in humans, associated with increased HR. These hemodynamic changes should be considered for people taking CBD. Further research is required to establish whether CBD has a role in the treatment of cardiovascular disorders.

Bird Behaviour — pat morss

Some familiar and some new acquaintances, along with drama in the yard.

An hour after hanging a new front door geranium, our House Finches were checking it out.
On our walk, there was a Baltimore Oriole sampling flower nectar in a tree.
We learned they like fruit. It only took an hour for them to find our half orange.
An observant Gray Catbird thought “I’ll try that.” Once seemed enough.
An adult joined shortly by a young male, with both lit by the setting sun.
Finished dessert.
Anne-Lise saw two Common Grackles continue their fight, hitting the ground.
It was a fast moving tussle, equally matched.
Up again for round two.
Down, but still fighting.
Then the surprise pin with both wings on the mat. Match over.
