My name is Bob Thome, U.S. Army veteran. I am searching for an army buddy who I served with in 1972-1973 in Kaiserslautern Germany. His name is Harry Goodwin. His leave address was 9 Magnolia Avenue, Gloucester, MA. He would have graduated high school around 1951 or 1952, or possibly a year or two earlier. I have been unable to locate and visit with him. Any old timers affiliated with this site who might have a lead on where I might locate Harry?

Early Risers…

Police Chief John Horvath reports that the Rockport Police Department, along with the Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad and Rockport Fire, responded to the discovery of a possible World War I era ordnance on Cleaves Street.

At approximately 4:33 p.m., an individual cleaning a cottage on Cleaves Street came across what appeared to be a decommissioned 75mm artillery shell. The Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad was notified and responded to the scene, where they conducted an X-ray analysis of the object. However, the results were inconclusive.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Bomb Squad made the determination to conduct a controlled detonation at the Rockport Police Department gun range, located off Piggery Crossing. The detonation was successfully completed without incident.

Rockport Fire Department, Rockport Fire Department Ambulance and Beauport Ambulance stood by as a precaution during the detonation.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, and no charges have been filed in connection with this incident.

Continuing the Irish Coffee series, I ordered one at Calas in Manchester when we had dinner with friends there recently. Another example in the “plain and simple” category…..it was simple and kind of perfect, though I have to admit I miss whipped cream……that’s becoming kind of a mandatory addition to make it into my top 3! The mason jar isn’t my favorite serving choice but I’ll allow it. These nights have been so cold though that these warm drinks are making a real difference in my attitude. Slainte.
