City Invites Local Poets to Apply for Esteemed Honor, Applications Due March 10, 2025

GLOUCESTER, Mass.βThe City of Gloucester is pleased to announce that applications are now open for the position of Poet Laureate, a distinguished honorary position that continues the cityβs rich literary tradition. The selected poet will serve as an advocate for poetry, fostering appreciation for the literary arts throughout the community and engaging with residents and visitors alike.
βGloucester has long been home to an extraordinary literary heritage,β said Mayor Greg Verga. βThis program helps to ensure that the literary arts are celebrated and remain accessible to the Gloucester community and its visitors. We look forward to collaborating with our future poet to weave together the many voices and experiences that make up the beautiful fabric of our community.β
The Cityβs Committee for the Arts has reinvigorated this cherished community tradition and has opened applications for the position. The position, last held by Peter Todd, will be responsible for advocating for poetry and the arts by promoting creative writing accessibility and integrating poetry into Gloucesterβs community life.
Applicants must be at least 21 years old and a Gloucester resident for at least two years prior to nomination. For a full description of the position, requirements, and selection process, please visit the link below:
