A Visit To Ponyhenge

We saw a random Facebook post referencing “Ponyhenge” , a roadside collection of carefully arranged, previously loved hobby horses. This sight is on a rather rural road in Lincoln MA and you are not likely to stumble on it accidentally. It was a lovely day but a bit windy so the horses appeared to be rocking along on their own as we took a look around. It’s not a large area, smaller than I was anticipating but jam packed with all manner of rocking horses. You’ll notice a Radio Flyer as well as a Flexible Flyer. It’s my understanding that these occasionally get re-arranged. It’s obviously well tended (some have ties and scarves!) even if just a little creepy. For additional photos and story details, check out Pat D’s Photos and Adventures on Facebook.

Video- Good Morning Gloucester French Onion Soup Tour – Lobsta Land

With Summer slamming to a close and it being cold and raw out we’re gonna do a roundup of the best French Onion Soup around town, probably including all of Cape Ann.

Criteria which I think we can all agree on- served in a proper French Onion soup crock, the cheese be the right mix and crusted over the top, the broth be hearty and most importantly, flavor.

Here’s Lobsta Land. Please nominate local place where you think they have great French Onion soup for us to try. Let me know where you think we should go next.

Cove Gallery 2025 Season — Call for Proposals

The Rocky Neck Art Colony is pleased to announce that it is accepting exhibition proposals for the 2025 season at Cove Gallery on Rocky Neck in Gloucester. The spacious and well-lit gallery is located on the Smith Cove waterfront in America’s oldest working art colony, an area that attracts visitors all season long to shop for fine art and crafts, visit historic sites and dine in nearby restaurants.

Exhibition proposals will be reviewed by a group of independent jurors to fill 5 openings running from late-May through early October. The jury will be looking for proposals with thematic and aesthetic cohesion featuring work by dedicated artists in any/all media.

The deadline to submit a proposal is Monday, February 10, 2025. It is strongly recommended that anyone interested in this opportunity read the brief carefully and communicate with the Program Director early in the process to avoid unseen delays. Artists will be notified of acceptance in February, allowing sufficient time to prepare their shows.

The Call for Proposals can be found here:

RNAC acknowledges the generosity of Mark Goetemann who has donated the use of the former home and gallery space of his late parents, Gordon and Judth Goetemann, to honor their legacy as artists, as inveterate supporters of artistic excellence, and to carry on their commitment to keeping Rocky Neck a haven for artists and art lovers.

Breakfast At Kalamata

A fellow volunteer at the Stage Fort Park Welcome Center (Cynthia I believe) recommended we try the Kalamata Greek Kitchen on Main St for breakfast so we did! I rarely am ready for a traditional breakfast during traditional breakfast hours, but on this day I was READY. I ordered a breakfast sandwich and Jim got blueberry pancakes. The pancakes (with REAL blueberries) was outstanding and my sandwich filled me up perfectly. Although this included photo makes it appear to be relatively empty, several people came for a planned morning gathering while we were there. I have had several lunches here since opening the store at 44 Main St and now I have 2 reasons to go: breakfast and lunch! Thanks for the tip, Cynthia!

Do you like the idea of a 12 team college football playoff?

First off let me say that I’ll always be sad BC left the Big East. The Big East was a once proud conference that mattered and I grew up rooting for BC.

Having said that, what’s done is done and this format seems pretty exciting if you’re a football fan.

Who, if anyone do you root for in College football? Gonna be interesting…
