‘Play It Again Sam’ — pat morss

In spite of this being a slight misquotation from the 1942 classic film Casablanca, it is applicable to some of the repetetive routines around here.

Sailing a quiet Gloucester Harbor after Labor Day. Birds starting their migrations south.
Thomas E Lannon and our other schooners are maintaining daily visitor and locals sailings.
Cruise ships on weekly schedules; Holland America Lines ‘Volendam’ passing while still dark.
Royal Caribbean ‘Vision of the Seas’ coming in by the whistle buoy at dawn.
Princess Cruises ‘Enchanted Princess’ heading out from Boston toward Canada or Bermuda.
Down on our deck, Mom turkey’s single kid is growing up. They look hassled.
On Niles Pond, a Green Heron must have been watching ‘Little Blue.’
He caught a frog and flew it over to the exact same dining rock Little Blue (Heron) uses.
Meanwhile, Little Blue was over at Brace Cove checking out the salt water marketplace.
The many young deer are maturing, like this proud-to-be-a-Whitetail.
Either it runs in the family, or this is the same single-antler deer as last summer.
A tender moment with a very late in the season Bambi.

Beautiful weather

Love this early fall weather.  I call this weather, beach, hiking, walking, and being outside weather.

Veterans, service members, first responders and their immediate families are welcome to join Free Warrior Yoga class Mondays 6:00-7:00pm with instructor Kate Hamm at Treetop Yoga studio

Veterans, service members, first responders and their immediate families are welcome to join our Free Warrior Yoga class Mondays 6:00-7:00pm with instructor Kate Hamm at Treetop Yoga studio in Gloucester starting September 16th and running through December 16th. All levels welcome, from the beginner to the advanced.

Prolonged exposure to combat and operational stress are just part of the job for service members and first responders. Warriors receive some of the best training to prepare for facing extreme and dangerous conditions. However, without the tools and training to help to manage the impact of stress and other traumas, those who serve us are vulnerable to developing serious stress-related disorders.

Mind-body practices like yoga are increasingly becoming a more popular adjunct therapy within the military and first responder population. Even the VA has recognized yoga to be highly effective in managing pain and improving systems of depression, anxiety and insomnia.

A special thank you to Cape Ann Savings Bank, a Silver Sponsor of the Warrior Within Yoga Project, for helping to make this possible through a community grant. And a shoutout to Vionette Chipperinni, Director of Veterans Services, who started the conversation with Treetop Yoga about bringing this type of service to Cape Ann several years ago before she stepped into her current role in the Veterans Services department.

While Treetop Yoga will host the classes, the program is managed and supported by the Warrior Within Yoga Project, a MA non-profit.

Late Summer Day at Castle Hill On Crane Estate

I had an afternoon to myself so I took a ride through the Crane Estate in Ipswich recently. I walked the gardens and took a stroll through the Great House on a gorgeous late summer afternoon. (*Free for Trustees members*) It’s a popular place for photo shoots as I watched two separate shoots in action. I don’t blame them for seeking the beautiful backdrops. It’s an inspirational place to wander about.
