Gloucester, MA – Salty’s Bagels, started by Amy Whittenburg, is excited to be a part of the local food scene! After a winter spent tinkering with bagel recipes and learning from some talented bakers from Somerville, Portland, ME, and Vermont, Amy has crafted a bagel recipe that local bagel lovers are really enjoying.

In June 2024, Salty’s Bagels joined the Cape Ann Shared Kitchen, kicking off pop-up events every Sunday morning. The community’s response has been encouraging, with many weekends selling out! Customers can pre-order their favorite bagels through Facebook or Instagram Messenger until Thursdays at 5:00 PM.

Salty’s Bagels are made from high-quality ingredients and crafted with care, resulting in a crispy crust and a chewy, open crumb, thanks to a time-honored proofing process that creates a complex and delicious flavor.

“We think our bagels are a nice way to start the day,” says Amy. “It’s been music to our ears to hear how much people are enjoying them.”

At the moment, Salty’s offers plain, sesame, everything, salt, and the popular rosemary salt. We’re working on new options like sourdough, pumpernickel, and gluten-free. Our homemade schmears feature classic plain, scallion, and on occasion jalapeño.

The name:

The name “Salty’s” invites a playful interpretation of what “salty” means to the individual. It might evoke the delightful flavor of sea salt on a freshly baked bagel or hint at a down-to-earth charm.

What Customers Are Saying:

“I made bagels every week until I tasted Salty’s Bagels. Now I am hooked! They are chewy and not too doughy. We love them!” — Naomi from East Gloucester

“Salty’s is the best bagel I have ever had. They are warm and fresh, with a flaky outside and moist inside. I’d love to see them open a full-time shop!” — Maureen, Cape Ann

Schooner Thomas E. Lannon

There’s still some summer left! Have you sailed on the Schooner Thomas E. Lannon yet. Time and time again many of us at GMG tell you that a trip on the Lannon is one of our favorite summer activities. I had the chance to take another sail on Wednesday night with friends. Added bonuses were music with Chris + Joe (Chris Langathianos and Joe Wilkins), beautiful weather….and a rainbow.

Surf’s Up At Good Harbor

When I saw the bevy of surfers enjoying the remnants of Ernesto, I couldn’t help but wonder what a group of surfers is called. Is like an animal grouping: a murder of crows etc?

Anyhow, it’s good to note that beach enthusiasts should check to make sure their favorite beach is open before leaving the house. We’ve had a number of closures recently that appear to be storm related. The Gloucester Beaches Facebook page is a good place to start.
