The best part of our sailing team is that we keep the barrier to entry at nothing – we truly want all of Gloucester’s youngsters to have a chance to learn skills on the water, how to communicate, and to be part of a team, no matter their background. To keep our barrier of entry low, we rely on fundraising efforts from the community to cover our fuel costs, boat repair, safety equipment, and other miscellaneous expenses. Sail GHS has a summer drop in program on most summer mornings for new and experienced sailors. The program is open to any local child in middle or high school that does not attend a school with its own sailing program. Our sailing team keeps the next generation of Gloucester participating in our working waterfront.
These sailors have spent days canvassing local businesses who have generously given us great silent and live auction items, including a scenic flight out of Beverly Flight Center, a four pack of Red Sox box seats to an available game of the winner’s choosing, tickets to North Shore Music Theatre events, a police cruiser ride to school, and a harbor sightseeing tour for 2 with Jimmy T! We’ll have a lot of local business gift cards as well so you can donate and shop local in return!
We will also be selling raffle tickets at the auction for an inflatable Zodiak including motor that is generously provided by Brown’s that will be raffled off later in the season. We will be limiting raffle tickets sold to 100.
