Volunteer docents will be giving tours of the flowers at 4:00 PM each Sunday from now until September 29th.  The tours are weather permitting and will be around half an hour.  Come by if you would like to learn more about Generous Gardeners and the volunteers who help the flowers bloom for all to enjoy.

Where:  Meet at the Fishermen’s Wives Memorial

When:  4:00 PM Sundays through September 24th

The tours are free. Donations are accepted, preferably via our website.

Our Dahlia Bouquet event will be October 14th from noon until we run out of flowers. For this event we cut down the blooming dahlias and make arrangements for the public to purchase.  Then we start the process of digging out the dahlias to store for the winter.

Enjoy the flowers!

Shakespeare’s Songs: A Concert-Lecture

Shakespeare’s Songs: A Concert-Lecture, featuring the music of the Bard’s plays, with singer-storyteller Jack DesBois and pianist Joe Mulholland

Friday, August 11 @ 3:30 pm

Tickets Adults $30.00 Students $20.00

Saturday, August 19 @ 3:30 pm

Tickets Adults $30.00 Students $20.00

Come enjoy this behind-the-scenes exploration of the musical world of Shakespeare’s plays.

William Shakespeare was not only the English language’s greatest poet, but also one of its most enduring songwriters. The songs he wrote for his plays baffle scholars and delight musicians—because, for the most part, nobody knows exactly how the original music sounded. Composers over the centuries have written new music for the Bard’s words, while scholars have sought out Elizabethan-era tunes that fit the words well and therefore just might have been the original settings.

Singer, actor, and Shakespeare scholar Jack DesBois draws from both approaches in this program. He pairs art song settings of Shakespeare’s most enduring songs—by Schubert, Quilter, Finzi, Stanford, and Coleridge-Taylor—with the same songs sung to their conjectured original Elizabethan tunes. Drawing from his time studying at the American Shakespeare Center and Mary Baldwin University’s Shakespeare and Performance master’s program, Jack explores the plays containing the songs, the characters who sing
them, and the circumstances surrounding the songs’ original performances. The result is an evening of immersion in the captivating music of Shakespeare through the centuries.

Shakespeare’s Songs is an educational enrichment program of DesBois Tutoring & Enrichment. Learn more at: www.desboistutoring.org/shakespeares-songs.html

A Visit To Fleur Cuisine

I had a hankering for the BEST wings on the Cape a few days ago so we went to Fleur Cuisine on the T Wharf in Rockport. We were greeted by smiles from Daphnee and Wanddy welcoming us back. It’s that kind of hospitality that is one of the aspects that makes Fleur Cuisine stand out. Erin was our informative and friendly server and she hit the mark recommending a spicy margarita for me (Margarita Monday). We enjoyed a lovely relaxing meal and look forward to returning. I had the Caribbean Spice Wings; Jim had plantains and coconut shrimp . We also splurged on dessert. The food was fresh and delicious. There was a gentleman picking up a take out order raving about the quality of the wine list. He had apparently been in the wine business and made time to comment on the well curated wine list, so if you’re a wine fan perhaps check it out! Indoor, outdoor and bar seating is available so take your pick. It’s a relaxing and flavorful experience.
