Eagle Pair Story Plot Thickens

Many of you read a couple of weeks ago that we spotted a pair of eagles nearby and they appeared to be an adult and a younger eagle. The first photo here might look familiar as I published it at the time. This photo was used to confirm that this eagle is likely a bird born in Amesbury in 2015; identified as MM by Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife). Thanks to the input and efforts from Darlene (of Salem NH) and Laura (fellow eagle lover), I have put together my theory about this pair. It’s only a theory and we may never know for sure, but it’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

You see here also photos of MM as an eaglet in Amesbury with its parents as well as a photo of newly banded MM flying off presumably from the Amesbury area. These photos are provided by Darlene–thanks a bunch! I think MM is one of the pair of adults we were watching last year in the Gloucester area. We believe one of the adults likely died and MM has now paired up with this younger eagle. I believe it’s a little unusual for this to happen, but not unheard of. We spotted this pair flying into a local nest yesterday and (from a long distance) they seemed to be eating and communicating. It’s been reported that there’s a third eagle in the area also but I haven’t found the 3 together yet. Stay tuned. I hope you will agree it’s an exciting story. Further details and additional photos can be found at Pat D’s Photos and Adventures on Facebook.

To anticipate the comments to follow, allow me to add that these photos are cropped as they were taken from quite a distance. I won’t be any more specific about location in an effort to protect the birds except to say this is in the Gloucester area.

Can we make it a condition???

Beautiful and respectful Re-dedication of the Vietnam Memorial

On Saturday, April 15, 2023, the weather was foggy and cloudy, but that did not stop re-dedication of the Vietnam Memorial from being held.  This Memorial is located on the corner of Stacy Boulevard and Hough Avenue, Stage Fort Park.  It was wonderful to see so many citizens coming together to show their support.  Even though the weather was not ideal the support and respect from so many was wonderful and emotional.

Thank you to all the veterans and thank you to committee members, landscapers, designers and contractors who made this so amazing.

Thank you Generous Gardners

Walking the Boulevard the flowers are starting to come to life.  Thank you to Generous Gardeners for all their hard work.

Behind the Scenes At A Photoshoot

I happened across Jay Mailo Photography online and decided to book a half hour session for my daughter and her son at Half Moon Beach. His prices are reasonable, it’s easy to book and Jay is very adept at his work as you can see.

We started at the tennis courts and worked our way up to Half Moon Beach. The toddler got dirtier and wetter with nearly every step but Jay kept right up and even allowed him to touch his camera in order to build trust. You gotta love a photographer that gets right in the water in order to get the right shots. Even though the toddler was a bit cranky, Jay was patient and inventive in his techniques. We got access to the shots just a few days later and are thrilled with the results. If you ever have the need, he’s located on Main St in Gloucester though I did all our communicating online easy peasy. Thanks Jay!

Hammond Castle Museum's avatarCape Ann Community

Join us for one of the first fine art exhibits of the season with a very special exhibition of works by internationally acclaimed and collected Eric Pape (1870 -1938).

The Eric Pape At Hammond Castle Museum exhibit  will consist of more than two dozen works by Pape, many of which have not been on public display in nearly a century.  At the time of the exhibit, it is expected to be the largest collection of Pape’s artworks on public display anywhere in the world.  The catalog of artwork is primarily on loan from the private collection of Dr. Gregory Conn, one of the world’s leading Pape experts and biographer.  On display will be examples of Pape’s work in various mediums including pencil, pen, watercolors, and oils. The catalog features the recently restored The Wireless Naval Battle of Gloucester Bay,  the only surviving mural by the famed artist.   Pape is perhaps…
